Quick Links
Like many of the past Pokémon games, breeding Pokémon is a crucial part in creating a player's ultimate team in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. One of the Pokémon that makes breeding in the games much easier is Ditto, the Transform Pokémon. Breeding in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is different from previous generations, as there are no Daycare Centers. Breeding is instead completed when players use the "Picnic" mechanism.
Players who focus on breeding in Pokémon games often search for Ditto because it can take on the form of any Pokémon and therefore can breed with any Pokémon, making the need for having specific egg types less important. Ditto are also important when players need to breed a "gender-unknown"-type Pokémon. Ditto cannot breed with other Ditto or Pokémon in the "no egg" group. In previous games, Ditto could be found in the wild, shown as their true form. Once a player began a battle with the Ditto, it would take on the same form of the Pokémon that the player was battling with.
Ditto Locations
According to the in-game Pokédex, Ditto can be found in the West Province of Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This is also referred to in the game as Areas 2 and 3. Ditto tend to be found near towns and cities, which in this area are Port Marinada, Cascarrafa, and Medali. Players looking to explore these areas will need to be prepared to encounter Pokémon at levels from the teens to the thirties. Players looking for Ditto, however, should not be searching for its usual purple, blobby form.
Easily Catching Ditto
Unlike in most previous Pokémon games, Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are not immediately recognizable out in the wild. This is similar to the Ditto in Pokémon Go. Game Freak has taken Ditto's transforming type to a new level; all Ditto in the wild of Paldea are disguised as other Pokémon. This means that players looking to add a Ditto to their Pokédex will be playing a bit of a guessing game before encountering one. Currently, players are reporting seeing Ditto disguised as Eevee, Grimer, Murkrow, Skiddo, and Meowth. Once a player engages in a battle with a disguised Ditto, the Ditto will reveal itself. Ditto can also be found in Tera Raids.
Players can use the ZL button to target a Pokémon; if it is a Pokémon that has already been ed to the player's Pokédex but is showing "???", it is very likely actually a Ditto.
Once a player has started a battle with a Ditto, catching it is the same as catching any other Pokémon, making sure to decrease its health without defeating it before throwing a Poké Ball. Ditto are incredibly useful to players who are looking to breed their Pokémon to find Shiny Pokémon. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has truly captured the nature of a Ditto by disguising it, and this is not the only Pokémon that has this mechanic in the game.
