Although we don't have an official release date yet for Pokémon Legends: Z - A, I do think I have a pretty good idea of when we can expect it. While not a guarantee, based on previous Pokémon releases, and the information we have so far, I think it's possible to narrow down the game's release. While I'm not confident enough to give an exact date, I am at least pretty certain about what month the game will come out.

The promise of new Mega Evolutions and a reworked combat system are enough to get me excited about Pokémon Legends: Z-A. I'm also interested in seeing how a Pokémon title handles being restricted to a single city, so I'm eager to get my hands on the game when it does come out. While I wish it was a little bit sooner, I'm guessing that Pokémon Legends: Z-A sticks to the Pokémon tradition based on its currently announced release window.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Will Release In Late 2025

Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Trailer Gave Us A Release Window

We know that Pokémon Legends: Z-A's release window is set for late 2025, thanks to the game's trailer. This already basically narrows it down to one of two months, November or December. Although release windows aren't an exact science, I would consider anything coming out in September or October to be hit with the "Fall 2025" label, as opposed to "late 2025." So, I think it's safe to rule out seeing Pokémon Legends: Z-A any sooner than November of this year.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Needs One Feature To Avoid Feeling Outdated

There’s a lot of talk about Pokémon Legends Z-A looking outdated, but it could avoid that fate if it adds a feature the series is sorely lacking.

A good recent example is Path of Exile 2, which was given a "late 2024" release window by coming out in early access on December 6, 2024. That said, I'm not sure if we'll have to wait all the way to December for the next Pokémon game to come out. To me, a November release date makes the most sense.

November 2025 Seems Like The Month For Legends Z-A To Release

November Allows For More Time Before The Holidays

A November release date makes a lot of sense to me for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. A lot of big games tend to come out in November. Looking at the Call of Duty franchise, nearly two-thirds of the entire series were released in November, with a few more being released in late October. Now, last year there were a few more big releases in early December than in November, but in general, big releases tend to come out slightly in advance of the holiday season.

After A Scarlet & Violet Setback, I Hope Pokémon Legends: Z-A Restores One Great Customization Feature

Pokémon games have developed an impressive degree of potential customization, but this feature has also suffered in the most recent titles.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A coming out in November, especially near the tail end of the month, would be perfect for holiday shoppers. Although Pokémon has fans of all ages, it does have a strong appeal for younger players who may be getting the game as a holiday gift. Of course, an early December release is still on the table when considering the holidays, but there is one other reason why I think we'll see Pokémon Legends: Z-A in November instead.

November Releases Are A Pokémon Tradition

Recent Mainline Pokémon Games Have Come Out In November

I want to clarify in advance that when I talk about Pokémon release dates here, I'm discussing mainline titles. The Pokémon franchise is pretty huge, and games have been released at a variety of different times throughout the year. However, since Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire back in 2014, every mainline title in the Pokémon series has been released in November. Although I'm not sure if I'd consider them mainline games, Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu! and Let's Go Eevee! were also released in November. That said, an exception to this pattern could call my prediction into question a bit.

I Already Love Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s New Protagonists For One Simple Reason

One newly-revealed detail regarding Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s player characters has really made me appreciate the thought involved in their creation.

There is one major break in this pattern that could be bad news for my prediction, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which was released in January. While January is out of consideration for Pokémon Legends: Z-A's "late 2025" release window, it does show that the Pokémon Legends games may not follow the same release pattern as mainline titles. Still, I am expecting that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will follow the pattern of most major Pokémon releases in recent years, and come out in mid-November.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A coming out around the third week of November would fit the pattern of previous big releases in the franchise, and it would give customers a good amount of time to get the game before the holidays. Although it would likely be too recent to be discounted as part of any Black Friday deals, it would still be beneficial for a new Pokémon game to be on the shelf before one of the biggest shopping days of the year. While I could be wrong, my money is on Pokémon Legends: Z-A coming out in November.
