Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Horizons, Episode #12Pokémon Horizons has seen the return of the mysterious turtle Pokémon which saved Liko in the first episode, and this time it has an entirely new power to show off. This time, it's an ability that is prevalent among Legendary Pokémon, perhaps hinting at its true nature.
In the double-length first episode of Pokémon Horizons, Liko was protected from an errant attack by a barrier risen by a mysterious turtle Pokémon, whose name is still unknown. Fans immediately drew a connection between this crystalline turtle Pokémon and the Scarlet/Violet DLC Pokémon Terapagos, a Legendary-tier Pokémon that seems to have a connection to the Terastal phenomenon. The mystery Pokémon went unseen until episode #12, where it came out of the pendant suddenly, in front of Friede and the others, to deliver a special message to Liko and Roy. This message seems to have come from the ancient adventurer who owned the Black Rayquaza, beckoning them to find his treasures.
Pokémon Horizons' Mystery Pokémon Has Psychic Powers
When the mysterious Pokémon appears, it (with the help of Arboliva) encloses Liko and Roy in a barrier, which fills with mist. Both young trainers hear a voice from within the mist, urging them to find the remaining Ancient Poké Balls, before the mist and barrier disappear, and the Pokémon return to the pendant. Needless to say, Friede and the rest of the airship crew are stunned, having not expected to see an entirely new Pokémon come out of Liko's pendant. It's clear the pendant has some sort of connection with the Ancient Poké Balls, and the Pokémon inside was entrusted with a message for the future.
The ability to show images to humans around it is one that's been demonstrated by a few Legendary Pokémon over the years, but most famously the duo of Latios and Latias, who were shown to have the capacity to share what they've seen using their psychic powers. That may be a sign that this turtle Pokémon is meant to be a Psychic-type, but it's difficult to say for sure. Other Legendary Pokémon, such as Lugia, have been shown to have Psychic abilities despite not being Psychic-type, after all. The Pokémon's crystalline nature may also be a hint towards that, as crystals have long been associated with psychic powers, as have barriers like the one it used before.
Horizons Exclusive Mysterious Pokémon Will Play A Key Part In The Story
While this turtle Pokémon remains quite the mystery at this point, it's finally shown off a little more of what it can do, leaving some tantalizing hints about what it might be. The mystery Pokémon is now confirmed to be related to the Ancient Poké Balls and the ultra-rare Pokémons they contain, and its pendant may well have once belonged to the legendary ancient adventurer Lucius himself. With each piece of the puzzle, new facts become clearer, while still more questions arise. Pokémon Horizons seems to be taking its time unwinding this mystery, so fans will just have to keep watching in order to find out about this mysterious, anime-exclusive Pokémon.
