Generation III of the Pokémon series certainly is quite the treat for its followers. The Hoenn region produces an array of memorable and truly powerful Pokémon, which makes finding them always a happy occurrence. like every other generation of Pokémon, it is clear that there are some rather peculiar , too.
That is not necessarily a bad thing either, as some of them are actually very good in battle. In fact, they could even be favorites to many diehard fans. However, that does not excuse the fact that they also do not make much sense when it comes to their appearances and/or overall backstories. Withhas some head-scratching Pokémon.
Lotad
For the record, Lotad is a very cute Pokémon. However, its creation is rather peculiar, as it is hard to determine what exactly it is supposed to be. It is a Water/Grass-type, that also sports a giant lily pad on its back.
It certainly is original, which warrants praise, of course. However, its entire makeup is just far too strange not to question. It is not the strongest of Pokémon either, so it is not the best to use in battle.
Trapinch
Trapinch is an especially peculiar Pokémon as it is a Ground-type, yet resembles somewhat of a bug or crab. It is just difficult to accept that it is meant to be in this specific type, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
When looking at its evolution cycle, it looks entirely out of place. Trapinch of course evolves into Vibrava and then Flygon, and they look far different from it. They are green and white in color, while also being Dragon-types as well. Thus, Trapinch is just in a weird spot.
Snorunt
Snorut is referred to as the "Snow Hat Pokémon." However, nothing about it resembles that, as it appears to just be a triangle with small legs. That alone makes it a bit of a strange creature.
It is also an Ice-type, which many casual followers of the series may have a hard time recognizing. Its evolved forms, though, show this off a bit more, as Glalie and Froslass actually have ice on them. Yet, it is hard to see how Snorunt evolves into them.
Barboach
Barboach is a particularly forgettable Pokémon from Generation III. It does evolve into Whiscash, though, so it is worth catching in games like Pokémon Go. However, it is just a bit of a weird creation.
It does resemble a loach quite well, but it becomes questionable when observing its types. It is understandably a Water-type, but for some strange reason, it also is Ground-type. That is peculiar for a fish-like Pokémon.
Zangoose
It is hard to pinpoint what exactly Zangoose is inspired by when first looking at it. However, it is considered the "Cat Ferret Pokémon," which is weird considering its name has the word goose in it.
It is hard to even see this combination of animals with its appearance. Besides its long claws, it just does not possess too many of the characteristics seen in those animals. It is a great design, though, as its white and red colors work in nice harmony together.
Lileep
Lileep is quite a fascinating Pokémon when it comes to its appearance. It is hard not to appreciate its array of bright colors and plant-like demeanor.
However, even with it being so cool, it is rather confusing as to why it is a Rock/Grass-type Pokémon. The Grass-type element clearly makes sense, but nothing about it appears to be rock-like. This same statement also applies when it evolves into Cradily.
Exploud
Exploud is a monstrous Pokémon that can be quite effective whilst in battle. It also is quite intriguing when it comes to its noise-based attacks, as it brings upon a new element to the series.
However, it is hard to determine what exactly this creature is supposed to be. It is a Normal-type, yet is anything but. However, that is not a knock on it, as it certainly is a Pokémon that every trainer needs to obtain in their Pokédex.
Gulpin
Gulpin has a very distinctive face, as it is of course known for its puckered lips and nonexistent eyes. This is what makes it so fascinating, but it is also another Pokémon that ultimately makes no sense.
It is not based on any animal or living creature, but it does have a random feather on top of its head. Also, its entire premise is peculiar, as it of course is known for devouring the Pokémon around it by swallowing them whole.
Armaldo
Armaldo is a Pokémon that can handle itself quite well when put into battle. This makes it important to catch Anorith any time the player sees it around. However, this Pokémon is rather peculiar due to its Bug-type label.
Nothing about this Pokémon really screams that, as it is humongous in size. It is easier to understand with Anorith, sure, but this specific Pokémon resembles more of a Dragon-type. At the end of the day, though, it is still a spectacular one.
Shedinja
Shedinja has a pretty cool design, which does help gamers be fond of it. However, its origin is a bit strange, as it comes from a discarded bug shell that came to life.
Furthermore, it is a Bug/Ghost-type. The Ghost-type aspect of this Pokémon is harder to understand, even with its backstory. It certainly is fascinating, though. Overall, Shedinja possesses a lot of mystery precisely because of its peculiar components.
