Pokémon GO never seems to have a shortage of events, and kicking things off right away in May is the Growing Up Event. While there's no new debut as part of this event, it's still one you won't want to miss. Many of the wild spawns featured will be Pokémon that require several hundred candies to evolve, making this the perfect chance to collect them.
This event will take place over nearly one week, meaning there will be plenty of time to participate, even with a busy schedule. That said, don't wait until the last day, or you may risk coming short of what you need to evolve these Pokémon. As part of the event, there will also be associated field and research tasks to complete within the allotted time limit.
Growing Up Event Schedule
You Will Have Six Days To Complete The Event
The Growing Up Event will be available from Friday, May 2nd, at 10 am to Wednesday, May 7th, at 8 pm local time. Keep in mind that there will be hatch collection tasks taking place during the Growing Up event, so in addition to making the most of your time, you'll also want to make sure you're getting in as many steps as possible during the time limit, so you have a higher chance at hatching multiple eggs in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO: Best Teams For Great League, Ultra League, and Master League
In The Great League, Ultra League and Master League in Pokemon GO it is vital you use the best teams to have a chance of winning regularly.
During this event, bonuses will include double XP for evolving Pokémon, double candy for hatching eggs, an increased chance of shiny Wimpod hatches, an increased chance of shiny Magikarp, Swablu, and Wimpod encounters, and an increased chance of encountering XXS and XXL Pokémon in the wild.
In addition to the main event and rewards, region-specific bonuses will also be available as part of this event for players in Japan and Korea. They include additional research tasks, 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon, and 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are put inside an incubator during the time of the event. These bonuses will be available for those players from Sunday, May 4, at 10 a.m. to Monday, May 5, at 8 p.m. local time.
All Wild Spawns During The Growing Up Event
A Wide Variety Of Small Pokémon With Big Payoffs
During this event, nine different Pokémon will begin spawning more frequently in the wild, most of which have the chance of being a shiny. These Pokémon include:
- Magikarp
- Wailmer
- Swablu
- Wimpod
- Foongus
- Dedenne
- Cutiefly
- Rookidee (This is the only Pokémon that will not spawn shiny variants)
- Nymble
While these may look like nothing special at first glance, several of these Pokémon are beyond the traditional 25/50/100 Candy rates for evolution. Swablu is just one example of a Pokémon on this list that requires 400 of its respective Candies to evolve. Considering each Pokémon catch typically only awards three candy, or six if there's an event, an evolution requirement this high is something that can take players several years to accomplish.
Be sure to make use of Pinap Berries during the event, as they will double the amount of candy earned when catching Pokémon. With the multiplier already taking place as part of the event, this means a Pinap Berry can earn you 12 Candy per successful catch.
There are other small ways to increase the amount of candy you have for a Pokémon, even when it's not spawning, such as having them be your buddy or using Pokémon GO's Rare Candy instead. However, both of these methods are still tedious and difficult, so it's not worth doing this unless you're only missing a handful of candy for an evolution.
All Pokémon Egg Hatches During The Growing Up Event
Get Your Steps In To Hatch These Exciting Pokémon
As part of the Growing Up event, it seems only fitting that there would be some unique Pokémon available for hatching from three of the different egg types in Pokémon GO. As part of the event, the changes to eggs will be the following:
Egg Type |
Pokémon |
---|---|
2km Eggs |
Happiny |
Riolu |
|
Wimpod |
|
5km Eggs |
Mime Jr. |
10km Eggs |
Toxel |
All the Pokémon featured in eggs as part of this event will have the possibility of being shiny. As part of this event, a Hatch Collection Challenge will take place. This means there will be unique rewards available to those who can hatch the required Pokémon during the event. To maximize your chances of accomplishing this, it's recommended that you try to acquire as many incubators as you can, so you don't have to hatch eggs one at a time.

How To Beat Ke Ke Ke Ke In Pokémon GO (May 2025)
Ke Ke Ke Ke is the strongest of the Team GO Rocket Grunts, but you can defeat their Ghost-type Pokemon by using Dark-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
Additionally, you'll want to make sure you have eggs to hatch. The main way to gather eggs is through spinning Poke Stops, but you can also get them through other means, such as part of a gift from a friend. Unfortunately, the egg type you end up with is entirely random, as are the hatches, so there's no way to guarantee whether you will receive a 2, 5, or 10km egg from either of these methods, nor what Pokémon it will hatch from the available options.
All Growing Up Event Rewards
XP, Stardust, Unique Encounters, & More
While there are no raids taking place as part of this event, there are still plenty of rewards to earn through other means. As with every event, there will be Field Research tasks to complete, as well as Paid Timed Research tasks for those who purchase a ticket. Field Research rewards will include encounters with event-themed Pokémon, while Paid Timed Research rewards will include an incubator, Pinap Berries, 3,000 Stardust, encounters with event Pokémon, and a themed avatar post.

Pokémon GO Is Trying Out Its Own Version Of The Battle , With Free And Paid Rewards
Pokémon GO has revealed a new monthly game titled the GO , with both free and paid rewards available for players to acquire via missions.
For the Egg-related collection challenge, players will be able to earn XP, Stardust, and a special encounter with Tandemaus as part of the rewards for hatching the required Pokémon. There will also be PokéStop showcases taking place where you may earn various rewards depending on your placement. Additionally, if you happen to be in Japan or Korea, the regional bonus will also reward you with a Lucario that knows the fast attack Force Palm when evolving Riolu.
As you work through the various aspects of the Pokémon GO Growing Up Event, keep in mind that all rewards will expire at the same time as the conclusion of the event and thus must be claimed by May 7th, 2025, at 8 pm local time; otherwise, they will be forfeited.
