Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Wonder Trade system feel less consequential, making it seem as if the games may never receive it at all.

This would be a strange oversight by the Pokémon Company, though, especially because a location for Wonder Trading is already set up in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In the original Gen 4 games, there was a building in Jubilife City called the Global Trade System. This building was the first in the Pokémon series to allow players from all over the world to trade with one another by connecting to the internet, hence why Gen 4 saw the creation of the Masuda Shiny hunting method in which breeding Pokémon from different nations led to increased Shiny odds. Now that trading via an internet connection is less of a novelty in the Pokémon games, the Global Trade System has been replaced with the Global Wonder Station, which will enable players to Wonder Trade with one another from around the world.

Despite the location being in the game, trainers are still unable to trade with one another. The lack of Wonder Trading is but one entry in a list of unfulfilled promises made by the Pokémon Company. Pokémon BDSP are not only expected to receive Wonder Trading but also Pokémon Home at some point in 2022. With neither still available for the games, it appears that the two will likely come together in an update at some point this year. And considering that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to come out in late 2022, it seems likely that this update will be sooner rather than later.

Pokémon BDSP Will Not Want To Compete With Scarlet & Violet

The reason why the update should come relatively soon is that news about a Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl update will not want to compete with news about Gen 9. If the Pokémon Company chose to release the update at the same time as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the alteration to the Gen 4 remakes would fly so far under the radar that it might as well have never happened. Thus, the Pokémon Company will want to work on any major updates for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl while the games are still fresh.

This period of time is quickly disappearing, as Pokémon Legends: Arceus practically swept Pokémon BDSP under the rug. Considering that Pokémon games generally launch in late November, the Global Wonder Station will be made active before then, perhaps by Summer 2022 at the latest. However, fans should feel assured that Wonder Trading will come to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl sooner rather than later considering their diminishing popularity in the wake of larger games.
