Fans of Pokémon can rejoice, as three of the most popular seasons of the Pokémon anime will be returning to Netflix after a fairly significant absence. The sixth generation of the anime, Pokémon XY, Kalos Quest, and XYZ, will again be available to stream starting June 1, 2025.

Pokémon's sixth generation era is one of the most popular with fans, who feel that Ash is more mature and battle-capable in this season than most others. It also involves some of Ash's most popular traveling companions, such as Serena, who is popularly "shipped" with Ash, as well as some of his most iconic Pokémon, such as Greninja, who even obtained a rare and exclusive form that Ash uses in battle. The season has a heavy focus on Mega Evolution as well, a fan-favorite mechanic which majorly shaped the way that the story of XY unfolded.

Mega Evolution is Making a Comeback

With Mega Evolution suddenly relevant once again, featuring heavily in the Pokémon Legends Z-A game, as well as in the new anime series Pokémon Horizons, now is the perfect time for Pokémon XY to make a return. Fans who are unfamiliar with Mega Evolution, or the Kalos region in general, would do well to revisit Ash's time there in the XY/Kalos Quest/XYZ seasons of the anime. That way, new and old fans alike can refresh their memories of the beloved feature and get back in the spirit of Mega Evolution just in time for the releases this year.

The Pokémon XY series have been a bit difficult to watch in recent years; previously, they were available on Hulu, but the series left that service over a year ago, and hasn't been available since. Older seasons of the Pokémon anime have gotten a bit easier to stream in recent months, especially with the debut of the Pokémon TV YouTube channel, which has been ing old episodes at a regular pace. However, that has left later seasons like XY in a difficult position, unavailable to be streamed anywhere legally for quite some time now.

Ash is at His Best in the XY Seasons

Generally speaking, fans consider the writing of the XY era to be some of the best in the series, and Ash's battle competency is at an all-time high, leading to some spectacular showdowns. The XY season is also known for featuring rival Alain, a fierce competitor and of Mega Evolution who starred in his own series of specials which aired during XY's run. While the specials likely won't be included in the Netflix release, Alain does make main series appearances towards the end of XYZ, as Ash's final opponent in the Kalos League.

Fortunately, fans don't have too long to wait, since the series will be available to stream again on June 1, 2025. Pokémon fans can get in the Mega Evolution spirit and gear up for a Mega Evolved 2025 with Ash Ketchum.
