The Greatest Hits Collection is an exclusive line of best-selling titles on various PlayStation platforms. These games are usually marketed with the Greatest Hits label at a discounted price. In the case of PlayStation 3, it wouldn't be surprising to note iconic franchises like Watch Dogs.
Even though action and adventure form the dominant genres in PS3's assortment of Greatest Hits, fans might have missed out on other iconic entries like a spin-off of South Park game, and so on.
The Sims 3
Largely following the simulated realities of its predecessors, The Sims 3 allows players to control the choices and fates of several characters in a virtual world. A major difference was a reliance on an open-world system as the so-called 'Sims' can wander around the neighborhood with no restrictions.
This installment of the franchise also marked the debut of the Create A Style Tool that allowed players to customize the clothing and physical appearance of their sims in any way that they wanted.
South Park: The Stick Of Truth
Based on the titular adult animated series, South Park: The Stick of Truth finds New Kid and his young peers protecting the town from all sorts of fantasy-based antagonists ranging from aliens to Nazi zombies.
The RPG replicates the iconic aesthetic of the source material through a 2.5D third-person perspective. The whacky humor of the series is also faithful given how the characters can resort to not just combat skills but also magical moves like "fart attacks." Even though its gameplay might not be that challenging, The Stick of Truth is still worth checking out for its comedic elements alone.
Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain is a drama-adventure game with a major reliance on interactive gameplay. The player is tasked with controlling four characters from a third-person perspective. Depending upon an assortment of strategies and quick time events, the player needs to ensure each character's survival while tracing the Origami Killer, a serial murderer with the pattern of drowning his enemies.
Director David Cage's detailed storyline coupled along with Normand Corbeil's haunting score makes for a perfect combination that elevates the artistic merits of the game. Apart from selling five million copies, Heavy Rain also earned three BAFTAs.
Just Dance 3
Just Dance 3 follows similar modes as its predecessors with single and multi-player dance routines at different difficulty levels. The PS3 variant also introduced a karaoke feature through which players can use PlayStation Eye's microphone to sing along the lyrics while dancing. Another added feature was Hold My Hand dance mode through which over 8 players up can share 4 PlayStation Move controllers to dance.
Featuring trending songs by Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, and The Black Eyed Peas, Just Dance 3 feels like a nostalgic throwback to the early 2010s.
ModNation Racers
ModNation Racers is a LittleBigPlanet games, -generated content is a key element to the game as it allows players to modify and create their own levels. They can also design their own racers and vehicles with great detail.
The racing is accompanied by a storyline revolving around a racer called Tag who enters into the world of go-karts to save his family's PaintShop from closure. The central character would again be of interest to LittleBigPlanet fans as Tag is introduced as a plain character model (like Sackboy) that can be later customized.
Street Fighter X Tekken
When it comes to the Street Fighter franchise, classics like Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV make the cut along with the crossover event with Tekken. Developed by Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken mostly included tag-team fighting matches as each player could select two characters from either of the two fictional universes.
With enough moves to master, the multiplayer fighting mode is definitely a major highlight of the game. At the same time, it also provides an intriguing single-player story mode mostly revolving around an alien cube christened as Pandora. Lead characters like Ryu and Kazuya get their individual character arcs around this central premise.
Skate 3
EA's Skate 3 might not match the legacy of the extreme sports video games.
While its prequel was set in a world where skating was seen as an illegal activity, Skate 3 takes place in a town where skating is an ethical hobby accepted by all. Choosing between different environments, players can work at their skating skills and engage in challenges while also selling skateboards for a living.
Rage
Borderlands is a classic amongst PS3's Greatest Hits Collection. However, a similar dystopian game that one can check out is Rage. Heavily inspired by Mad Max, Rage is set in a futuristic wasteland that's struck by an asteroid.
After a soldier awakens from his hibernation a century later, he struggles to make sense of his surroundings only to be hunted down by a mysterious organization. A cinematic premise and cutting-edge combat mechanics make this first-person short all the more engaging.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ninja Gaiden was initially released for the Xbox in 2004 until a new Sigma version was launched for the PS3. The Dead or Alive ninja Ryu Hayabusa stars as the protagonist as he embarks on a quest to avenge the murder of his clan and to find a stolen sword.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma largely retains the storyline along with adding a Mission Mode. This Mode allows players to focus on individual missions in small settlements, allowing more focus on combat-based action rather than plot-driven strategies.
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is a spin-off of Civilization, the turn-based strategy game franchise. Largely following the gameplay of its predecessors, Civilization Revolution starts in 4000 BC with players building their own civilization from scratch. As time progresses, victory will be determined on the basis of how far this civilization prospers and the extent to which it can dominate other civilizations.
Other options include capturing cities or great personalities of other societies, acquiring economic prowess, or even advancing technology to the point that one's civilization can reach the Alpha Centauri star system.
