Since 1994, the PlayStation has been a central feature of countless peoples’ lives. Despite being a relative latecomer to the console gaming world, Sony has managed to become one of the most popular video game console developers, with the PlayStation 2 being the most popular video game console of all time and the PlayStation 4 banking on its stellar list of exclusive video games to sell millions of units. If the rumors surrounding the PS5 are to be believed, the next-gen console will be a worthy successor to the PS4.
This article will list 10 PlayStation 4 exclusives that would make fantastic Netflix adaptions (Spider-Man Netflix adaption wouldn't work due to film rights).
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful games of all time. Set in a post-apocalyptic future in which the world is overrun with machines, the game follows a hunter named Aloy who must explore her mysterious past.
The concept of Horizon: Zero Dawn is interesting enough and is bound to draw in viewers, even those who haven’t played the video games.
Until Dawn
This may be one of the most interesting adaptations they could make due to an all-star in-game cast including Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek. The horror game follows a group of 8 characters as they try and survive on Blackwood Mountain.
The story-driven, Hollywood production is ripe for a movie or TV series adaptation and it is more than possible for Netflix to persuade Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere to return.
Infamous Series
Superheroes are incredibly popular at the moment, with the superhero genre dominating the box office. Netflix has tried previously to take advantage of this genre and Infamous would be a fantastic opportunity to do so.
The series has a ionate fan base and the concept alone would be destined to draw in viewers due to the popularity of the superhero genre.
God Of War
God of War is one of the most critically acclaimed Playstation 4 games. While originally focussing on the Ancient Greek myths, God of War recently changed its focus, moving Kratos to the Scandinavian north in order to grapple with the Norse myths.
Not only would there be a fanbase that would almost guarantee success when adapting God of War, but the cinematic and story-driven nature of the game would make it easy to adapt for Netflix.
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot is one of the most beloved franchises in PlayStation’s vast back catalog. The franchise has also recently seen a resurgence after the first three games were remastered for modern consoles. Despite the fact that the Crash Bandicoot remasters were released on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, it would be impossible to look at the Crash Bandicoot character as anything other than a PlayStation icon.
An animated Crash Bandicoot series has the potential to be incredible on Netflix. The series could either be PG for children or even slightly cheekier, making it closer to a PG-13.
The Last Of Us
In addition to God of War, the Last of Us is one of the most critically acclaimed PlayStation games of all time. Taking place in a zombie-esque apocalypse, the game manages to combine both action and genuine emotion, which is difficult for the video game genre.
The popularity of the zombie genre, as well as the popularity of the video game, will make this an ideal game for Netflix to adapt. Additionally, the game’s cinematic nature will also make it easier than some other games.
Persona 5
More than any on this list, Persona 5 may be the most suitable for an adaptation due to the fact that it is a story-driven, anime-style video game that has already received its own anime adaptation.
Netflix has a fairly good record of releasing fantastic anime on its platform, so it would be well placed to release an anime adaption of Persona 5 that would draw in viewers from across its wide and ionate player base.
Bloodborne
Made by the creators of the iconic and notoriously difficult Dark Souls series, Bloodborne is a game created in a similar mold. However, rather than relying on the medieval style of Dark Souls, Bloodborne adopts a more gothic art style.
The game was well-received, as expected from the track record of FromeSoftware, and boasts an impressive fan base so it would have a perfect foundation for Netflix to create a series within the world of Bloodborne.
Ratchet And Clank
Similar to Crash Bandicoot, the Ratchet and Clank franchise is one of the most iconic in the vast gallery of PlayStation exclusives. While the series did have a movie adaptation recently, it was not a huge hit among fans of the series.
The nostalgia factor, coupled with a desire to correct the mistakes of the recent film adaptation, would be a perfect chance to release a new Netflix adaptation. Who wouldn’t want to see the interesting world of Ratchet and Clank in a Netflix adaptation?
Shadow Of The Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most well-loved and iconic PlayStation exclusives of all time. Originally released on the PlayStation 2, the game received a next-gen remaster for the PlayStation 4 era.
The beautiful world and fantastic story of this game, combined with the ionate fan base will make any adaptation a huge risk but an incredible achievement if it can be pulled off.
