Following the trend of live-action remakes of Disney animated classics, Pinocchio hits Disney+ with Tom Hanks in the iconic role of Geppetto. It is a story that has been told many times with another version coming out this year as well directed by Guillermo Del Toro. However, this particular version may remind fans of some other movies.

Pinocchio features some central themes that are shared in a number of movies. Its light-hearted Disney tone will also remind audiences of some other favorites. So once fans finish with this latest remake, they might want to check out some of these movies like Pinocchio.

Pinocchio (1940)

The most obvious choice for a movie to watch along with the Pinocchio remake is the original animated classic. Though this story was not a new one, Disney's iteration has a place in the hearts of many fans.

The movie is responsible for introducing some of the most beloved Disney characters of all time as well as some iconic songs. It's filled with heart, humor, and some surprisingly scary sequences for an older animated movie. But it remains a masterpiece of Disney's long history.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Haley Joel Osment surrounded by robots in A.I. Artificial Intelligence

Though it may not be as fondly ed as some of Steven Spielberg's more rewatchable movies, A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a beautiful and captivating movie that owes a lot to the legend of Pinocchio.

Haley Joel Osment stars as an artificially created boy taken in by a family to be their new son. As the young machine tries to learn how to be a real boy like he is meant to be, he is taken on a grand journey that spans time and has him learning more about his place in the world.

The Adventures Of Pinocchio (1996)

As fans are so familiar with the original animated movie, it is fun to see it as a live-action story. However, the Disney+ remake is not the first movie to bring Pinocchio's story to life.

The Adventures of Pinocchio is just one of the many live-action retellings of the famous tale. This one has Jonathan Taylor Thomas as the voice of Pinocchio and Oscar-winner Martin Landau as Geppetto. Though not very well-received, the movie made some interesting changes to the story.

Toy Story (1995)

One of the things this remake explores that is not really touched upon in the original movie is Pinocchio not being accepted. He is told many times that he is a wooden toy and does not belong with the real children. But the movie seeks to make his existence one of tremendous purpose.

one of the best movie quadrilogies as well as Pixar as an animation studio.

Frankenweenie (2012)

A boy with his zombie dog in Frankenweenie

The idea of something like a wooden doll suddenly being brought to life could be like something out of a horror movie. This becomes even creepier in a live-action version, but the movie manages to keep the idea heartwarming and cute.

Tim Burton's animated movie Frankenweenie mixes the heartwarming and cute aspects with some of those horror-centric feelings. It tells the story of a young boy who seeks to reanimate his deceased dog. While it might sound disturbing, it is a surprisingly sweet story.

Beauty And The Beast (2017)

One of the biggest live-action remakes that Disney pulled off was their retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson stepped into the role of Belle who finds herself held captive by a beast who might be more than meets the eye.

The live-action retelling of a magical Disney classic will perhaps get fans in the mood to revisit some of these other ones. Beauty and the Beast shares elements with Pinocchio from the theme of acceptance to the inanimate objects brought to life to a villainous role for Luke Evans.

Wall-E (2008)

The journey of the movie is all about Pinocchio looking for his place in the world and for a way to be loved. It helps that he is such an endearing character that fans want to cheer for this wooden puppet to find happiness in the end.

Though it is a Wall-E achieves the same impressive feat. It follows the titular tiny robot who is left alone on the abandoned planet Earth to clean up only to meet another robot and fall in love.

Cinderella (2015)

Cynthia Erivo s the remake, taking on the unforgettable role of the Blue Fairy who gives Pinocchio life. And Joseph Gordon Levitt plays Jiminy Cricket, the insect who serves as the young puppet's conscience in the story.

These magical elements of the movie bring to mind another Disney classic that also got a live-action remake. Lily James takes on the titular role in the remake of Cinderella about the kind yet overlooked girl who is granted the wish of a lifetime by her fairy godmother.

The Jungle Book (2016)

Another aspect of the story that makes Pinocchio a surprisingly relatable character is his search for belonging. The movie sees him attempting to fit in with the other kids in school, seeking the love of the public as an actor, and seeing what other kids do on Pleasure Island.

From the lovable animated protagonist to the adventures in the spotlight, this version of Pinocchio also feels like it shares similarities with another live-action Disney remake. Tim Burton directed the latest version of Dumbo, telling the story of the big-eared elephant who becomes the star of a circus.

This is another story of an outcast who has to learn that the things that make him different are also the things some people love him for. It is a tender and heart-warming story featuring a wonderful cast, including Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton.
