In Pikmin 4, there are several different types of Pikmin that are going to be of value to the player. Specifically there are 9 different types of Pikmin, two of which are unique to Pikmin 4, however, many of the pre-established Pikmin from previous games are available to help as well.

Yellow Pikmin are nothing new, however, they are just as valuable in Pikmin 4 as the other types of Pikmin and are one of the more common variants alongside Red and Blue. Yellow Pikmin will be discovered fairly early on, but like other Pikmin, in order to produce more, the correct onion will need to be recovered as well.

How To Unlock Yellow Pikmin

Yellow Pikmin are fairly easy to initially track down as they can be discovered within the first couple of days. While in Sun-Speckled Terrace, players will eventually be led to the Crackling Cauldron cave. The entrance to this cave is, unfortunately, going to be half-buried in the soil near the Rugged Scaffold base, so players will need to have Pikmin dig up the entrance before proceeding any further. Once inside, players will be able to find and procure yellow Pikmin, however, they won't be able to produce any more of their own until the Yellow Onion is also found.

In order to find the Yellow Onion, players will need to utilize the Yellow Pikmin they just secured and command them to destroy the electric fence, which will allow entrance to the third base. There will be a bag that will need to be destroyed by some Pikmin, which once done will reveal the Yellow Onion.

Note, however, that this is just one of two Yellow Onions in the game.

Now players simply need to take it back to base and merge it with the Red Onion, and they will be able to produce their very own Yellow Pikmin and no longer need to stress about losing the ones they have.

Yellow Pikmin have several uses to players including their speedy digging as well as their lighter weight allowing them to be thrown further, which can allow players to strategize their use of these golden Pikmin a little more. Aside from that though, they also have obvious use such as being immune to electricity, which will allow them to disable electric fences for the player which is vital to be able to explore the map. Now that players have the ability to create Yellow Pikmin, they may proceed on in uncovering the rest of the story awaiting them in Pikmin 4.
