Rock Pikmin are among the nine different types of Pikmin in Pikmin 4 that can be added to a players growing army. As some of the strongest and most durable types of Pikmin available, they are incredibly useful and worth seeking out. Unfortunately, they won't be found until reaching the Blossoming Arcadia area.

When in Blossoming Arcadia, Rock Pikmin can be found in a few specific caves. As with most of the other types of Pikmin in Pikmin 4, except for Glow Pikmin, the Rock Pikmin will be found in the wild but can also be grown using their associated Rock Onion. The Rock Onion will be found much later than when players first encounter Rock Pikmin.

How To Unlock Rock Pikmin

While in the Blossoming Arcadia, players will come across the Kingdom of Beasts cave. This is the first cave where players will encounter Rock Pikmin that they may recruit. Before finding the Rock Onion in Pikmin 4, players can use this cave as a way to acquire more Rock Pikmin by simply completing the cave in full and then doing speed runs through it to gather more and more Rock Pikmin. Once players have enough supply to carry them for a while they can continue on until they find the Rock Onion.

The Rock Onion cannot be obtained until players have completed the main storyline and rescued Olimar. After that, Giant's Hearth will become available, which is the fifth area of the game.

This is where players will find the Rock Onion. There will be several obstacles in the way of the Rock Onion including walls and burnable obstacles, but the biggest obstacle players will face will be the Sovereign Bulblax. This is one of the rather difficult bosses players will come across in Pikmin 4, but as long as plenty of Pikmin 4's Ice type Pikmin are on hand, there should be no problem.

Once the enemy has been defeated, players will be able to retrieve the Rock Onion and take it back to base. Once there, it can be utilized the same way that all other onions are utilized and will allow players to grow Rock Pikmin. These special Pikmin are a great addition to the army as they are able to break through various types of barriers. They are also resistant to stomp and trample attacks which makes them even more valuable to players when exploring some of the more difficult areas of Pikmin 4.
