Of the nine types of Pikmin in Pikmin 4, there are two that are new such as the Glow Pikmin. The two new Pikmin are the Ice Pikmin and the Glow Pikmin. While the Ice Pikmin are retrieved through the traditional means of growing them using their associated Onion, Glow Pikmin have no corresponding Onion that can be used to grow them.

Although the Glow Pikmin have no Glow Onion with which they can be grown, they do have their own unique method of growth. This involves using specific seeds found at night during explorations. They can also be farmed during these explorations and are fairly easy to collect once players have access to them, however, they can only be collected at night.

Glow Pikmin in Pikmin 4

As stated, Glow Pikmin does not require an Onion to find. Therefore, they are going to be found in the wild. Unfortunately, they also do not appear until later in the game. About midway through, players will speak with Yonny and unlock the ability to explore at night. This is where Glow Pikmin can be found and farmed. Luckily, when exploring at night, these Pikmin will be easy to track down as they are abundant and very noticeable.

Despite not having an Onion, there is still a way to grow them. Glow Seeds can be obtained when players complete Night Expeditions and can then be used to grow Glow Pikmin, but only while in caves.

Be sure to only utilize Glow Seeds when those Pikmin are needed, as they won't be able to follow back up to the surface where the sun is shining. Glow Pellets can also unlock more Glow Type Pikmin in Pikmin 4. Glow Pellets are found during night expeditions and can sometimes be dropped by enemies.

Glow Pikmin are beneficial to players as they are immune to all elements, including electricity, fire, water, and poison, which means that they can assist in a plethora of situations where multiple types of Pikmin would typically be needed.

Glow Pikmin can also create a ball of light that can stun enemies, which can come in handy. Unfortunately, despite having valuable uses, they cannot be utilized in any bright places; hence them only being able to be farmed at night. Therefore, they will have to be left behind when venturing back to the surface in Pikmin 4.
