In the issue’s first preview, Jean details why she selected each member of the diverse group of heroes. Though Captain Marvel has a long list of extraordinary abilities as one of Earth’s mightiest heroes, including superhuman speed, strength, flight, energy absorption/blasts, and more, Jean tells Carol that she brought her to the team because she’s the greatest tactician she knows.

Richard Rider’s Nova possesses some of the same abilities with his connection to the Nova Force, with his own version of super-powered energy pulses and beams included, but Jean wants him on the team for his vast knowledge of the cosmos. Though Rocket Raccoon has his own enhanced strength and agility to a degree, he’s also needed for the knowledge he can provide, but as an expert in technology. Being a powerful Asgardian hero, Sif s the roster for her understanding of cosmic history, the Warlock’s Eye, and for her own superhuman skills in sword-fighting combat, including strength and durability.
