Just in time for Halloween, ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia has entered early access on Steam. But what about the game's future on Xbox One?

Phasmophobia is a co-op ghost-hunting game that has become incredibly popular, in part thanks to Twitch streams. Teams of up to four people explore a location, looking for clues to deduce what kind of ghost is haunting the building. Players can use flashlights, UV lights, thermometers, cameras and more to capture evidence, but they have to move quickly, as the ghost may eventually turn aggressive and attack the players.

While Phasmophobia has become popular on PC, it is currently not available on Xbox One. This may be in part due to the fact that the game is still in early access, and developer Kinetic Games has stated they plan on remaining in early access until some time in 2021. While early access games are not unheard of on console (Grounded, for instance, is a popular online game that released in early access in Summer 2020 via Xbox Game Preview), it can be more difficult for developers to push updates through certification processes. At the moment, Kinetic Games has not announced any console release plans, but that doesn't mean it won't happen once the game is complete.

Phasmophobia Will Add Maps, Ghosts, and More in Updates

If Phasmophobia does one day come to Xbox One, players can expect even more content than what's currently available in early access. Kinetic Games has listed out the broad strokes of what they plan to add to Phasmophobia, including more maps, more equipment, and more ghost types. They are also reviewing player on Steam and Discord to see if there are other requested features that would make the game better. Kinetic believes that they are midway through the development of Phasmophobia and hope to stay on track to release in 2021, though they do warn that date could slip as development progresses. Kinetic has also stated that the price of Phasmophobia (which is currently $13.99) should be expected to rise once the game leaves early access.

Even Phasmophobia doesn't come to console, there's always a chance the game could come to Xbox family via Xbox Game for PC. The monthly subscription program has a history of featuring PC-only titles alongside games that are available on both platforms. While this wouldn't be of use to those hoping for a console release, it would give gamers an affordable way to try out the game and see if Phasmophobia is too scary for them to handle.
