Summary

  • The Ted prequel show's success on Peacock makes a second-season renewal a no-brainer.
  • Impressive viewing figures and becoming Peacock's first hit show further a renewal.
  • The show's storylines and character arcs demand a second season to continue them and explore them further.

Peacock has yet to renew Seth MacFarlane’s Ted prequel show for a second season, but the series has been doing so well for the streamer that a season 2 renewal seems like a no-brainer. Set in 1993, the Ted prequel show revolves around a 16-year-old John Bennett attending high school with his talking teddy bear. Throughout their junior year, Ted and John contend with bullies, drugs, pornography, and a college professor who’s sexually attracted to teddy bears – and that’s just the beginning.

Peacock has yet to renew Ted for a second season, so the series’ fate is still up in the air, but a season 2 renewal would seem like an easy decision based on the show’s viewing figures. Ted has been doing extremely well – especially by Peacock’s standards – and yet the streamer still hasn’t announced season 2. The renewal seems inevitable, but Peacock is taking its time with the announcement, because the series has been streaming all its episodes since January 11.

Peacock Has To Renew Its Ted Prequel Show After Looking At The Streaming Numbers

In the week of its premiere, the Ted prequel show was viewed for a whopping 542 million minutes. Since the first season consists of just seven episodes, that’s an impressive number. Those would be successful viewing figures by Netflix or Prime Video’s standards, but it’s particularly laudable for a smaller streaming service like Peacock. With this viewership, the Ted prequel series has become Peacock’s first true hit show, so it would make sense for the streamer to renew it for a second season.

Why The Ted Prequel Can't End Without Season 2

While Peacock is apparently still undecided about whether to renew the Ted prequel show for a second season, the series is crying out for a season 2. Ted’s season finale sees Ted and John looking forward to their senior year of high school, so the show needs at least one more season to get them to graduation. There’s endless comedic potential in the constant clashes between John’s narrow-minded conservative father Matty and his progressive cousin Blaire, and Dennis the Dump Truck has to reappear at some point.

With only seven episodes in its first season, it feels like the Ted prequel show is just getting going. MacFarlane’s other family sitcoms have been on the air for decades, so there’s at least one more season in Ted. John started a promising romance at the end of season 1 and Matty and Blaire reluctantly grew closer throughout the season. Ted needs a second season to continue these storylines and character arcs, and to explore the family’s dynamics in even more depth.
