Chukwudi Iwuji, who is currently starring in HBO Max's final Guardians of the Galaxy movie directed by James Gunn, Vol. 3 is in production now ahead of its May 2023 debut. It looks to bring back all of the original team, from Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) to Drax (Dave Bautista). Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but those who have read the script promise it's an emotional ride. Case in point: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to feature a major death.
While the film is largely being positioned as a send-off for several characters, it's also introducing some newcomers to the MCU. The buzziest one is Adam Warlock, a popular comics character who fans have been expecting to see on the big screen for some time now. Will Poulter will play Adam. Additionally, Gunn cast Iwuji in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after seeing his work on Peacemaker, the DCEU show he created. Iwuji's role is being kept under wraps, but it sounds like fans should brace themselves for a thrilling introduction.
In a recent interview with THR, Iwuji divulged some new details about his mystery Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 character. Naturally, he couldn't share many specifics, but what he did say is quite intriguing. Iwuji hinted his character is unlike any seen in the MCU, and it sounds like his introduction will have major ramifications for the franchise. He said:
Powerful. (Laughs.) Extremely powerful. Complex. James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it. (Laughs.)
Iwuji appears to be playing a pretty pivotal character, and Marvel fans will no doubt turn to their comic books to brainstorm about who it could be. All that's clear right now is that he's going to make quite an impression on the MCU, and that Gunn feels good about hiring him. Gunn raved about Iwuji's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 performance earlier this month and said everyone on set has been very impressed with him. For fans who have been watching Iwuji as Clemson Murn on Peacemaker, that likely doesn't come as a huge surprise.
Still, it'll be very exciting to see how Iwuji's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 newcomer shakes up the MCU. For him to say he's one of the most complex figures in the entire franchise is a pretty bold statement, but it also just raises interest in his debut. Rumors so far suggest he could be Nova or the Silver Surfer, but nothing has been confirmed. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still well over a year away, fans might have to wait a bit longer to learn more about Iwuji's character. Luckily, it sounds like he will be well worth the wait.
