Paul Thomas Anderson is known as a writer and director of compelling and visually stunning - if often offbeat - films. Though he's not as prolific as other beloved directors - his career spans over two decades, yet boasts only eight features films - what Anderson lacks in quantity he more than makes up for in quality. His films have been nominated for 11 Academy Awards, though he’s never won one, and he remains a favorite of critics and cinephiles alike. Now, his ion for film proves why he's such a vital component in Hollywood.

In a secondhand story via extends beyond his own genres as well.
Not that any one genre can really apply to Anderson’s work - from tales of the porn industry in There Will Be Blood - Anderson never tells the same story twice. Though, like all auteurs, he has a few signatures, such as complex, male protagonists who feel a sense of being left behind; not to mention a penchant for period pieces.
In advising others to be more ive of all types of film, Anderson is likely echoing the he’s enjoyed throughout his career. Though his films might be considered awards bait, they are rarely box office smashes. His highest-grossing film, There Will Be Blood, grossed only $40 million and most of his other films come in around - or well below - the $25 million mark. His latest film, 2017’s final performance of one of this generation’s greatest actors. Paul Thomas Anderson always swings big, and even if it's not always a home run, he gets to keep making them and we get to keep reaping those rewards.
