Finding Patches the Hyena will depend completely upon how players decide to navigate the world from the starting hub. One of the first places he will appear is inside the second area of the second world, Stonefang Tunnel. If the player encounters him here he will point out a nearby item underneath a large Bearbug. After this Patches will then travel to the Nexus where the player will be able to purchase items from him.
Players can also encounter Patches in The Shrine of Storms, which is in the second area of the fourth world. This time he isn't quite as friendly towards the player and will kick them inside a large pit where they will have to face off against the Black Phantom. Once this has been taken care of the player can then return back to Patches where they will be given the Ring of Gash Resistance.
Those who don't kill Patches for what he did will be able to purchase all kinds of interesting items from him back at the Nexus. Some of the more important items are Full Moon Grass, Archstone Shards, and Heavy Arrows, which are very hard to find throughout the world in the game. Patches may be kind of annoying, but he is an incredibly important asset to hold onto throughout Demon's Souls.
