Airing from 2016 to 2022, This Is Us was a big hit for NBC. The show, which ran for six seasons in total, was created by Dan Fogelman and chronicled the interweaving lives of three triplets and their families. The heartwarming and emotional show was nominated for five Golden Globes throughout its run and won one for Best Actor in a Drama Series, which went to Sterling K. Brown. This is Us was also nominated for 14 Emmys, with the show's one win also going to Brown.
Fogelman's new show is a major departure from This Is Us. The series replaces the emotional family drama with high-stakes action set pieces and political intrigue. The political thriller show s a genre that is consistently entertaining for audiences, with recent shows like Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and Netflix's The Diplomat finding success, following on the heels of similar shows like 24, Homeland, and House of Cards. One key part of This Is Us returns in Fogelman's new show, however, with Brown playing the lead role.
Brown is also known for Black Panther (2018), American Fiction (2023), and The Predator (2018).
Paradise Is A Streaming Hit
The Thriller Show Has Been A Win With Critics
Paradise has found success on streaming not long after its debut. Starring Brown in the lead role, the Hulu series follows Secret Service agent Xavier as he is assigned to the presidential protection detail where he then begins to unravel a deadly conspiracy. The reviews for Paradise have been generally very positive from critics and the show, which also stars James Marsden, Julianne Nicholson, and Sarah Shahi, currently has an 86% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Per FlixPatrol, Paradise has now become a big hit for Hulu on Disney+, ranking in second place as of January 29, 2025. The political thriller show ranks behind The Best Heart Attack of My Life, a Spanish comedy series, but ahead of High Potential, Nightbitch, and 2019's The Lion King. Check out the full top 10 below:

What Paradise's Streaming Success Means For The Show
Will Paradise Season 2 Happen?
Now, Paradise's first two episodes launched on Hulu on Disney+ on Tuesday, January 28, so it's not entirely surprising that the show has made the chart. Still, though, the ranking suggests the show is off to a strong start. Combined with the positive reviews, the series could be poised to continue on a solid run over the coming weeks, and this would ultimately bode well for the show's future and the continued journeys of the Paradise cast of characters.

Paradise's Big Episode 1 Twist Throws The Entire Show Into Question
The big twist at the end of the first episode of Paradise competely changes the tone of the show and invites plenty of unique tonal potential.
Fogelman recently revealed that he has a three-season plan for Paradise, and strong ratings will be crucial for that plan to come to fruition. A Rotten Tomatoes audience score hasn't yet taken shape, but this will be an indicator of how viewers are actually responding to the characters and the twist-filled narrative, and how likely they are to return to watch future episodes. If the score ends up coming in around the 86% critics' score, Paradise could be set to emerge as a reliable new hit for Hulu.
