A brilliant artist has created a new look at the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Trolled Fans With Its Best RecipePixel artist Ninjamal (via Nintendo Life) shared amazing Paper Mario art on Twitter this week, depicting a Game Boy Advance version of the game. The artist shared four images in total, depicting a title screen, two scenes of combat - one with a boss - and a dialogue confrontation with Bowser. The art captures the graphical capabilities perfectly in 32 bit style, and the title depicted could easily fit in with the rest of the series.

This GBA Paper Mario Art Is Incredibly Nostalgic

Despite the original Paper Mario being over two decades old, it still remains a favorite for many players. This love was recently revived when Paper Mario came to Nintendo Switch as part of the N64 Expansion late last year. While some of this popularity is of course partly due to nostalgia, the game set the groundwork that the rest of the franchise has built upon, and the more straightforward fighting mechanics of the first few titles are preferable to some players over the battles of newer games.

This beautiful and clever art has undoubtedly gotten many long-time Paper Mario series fans wishing there had been more games in the early era of the franchise. Although the series received entries on the portable 3DS, a Paper Mario title created during the Game Boy Advance's lifespan would almost definitely have had a much different style than those games. Since it first entered development 25 years ago, Paper Mario has become a true classic and a gold standard for what turn-based titles can be, for which this art is the perfect tribute.
