Palworld is now available on PC, Xbox consoles, and the PS5, but does it have crossplay between these platforms? The monster-collecting, base-building game by Pocketpair surprised everyone by announcing a PS5 launch during the September 2024 Sony State of Play. The game's console port was a near-instant hit, and is sitting at a 4.9 rating in the PlayStation Store at the time of this writing.

Palworld fans are thrilled to be able to play the Pokémon rival on the PlayStation 5. However, many existing fans already have a copy of the game on the PC or Xbox consoles. Because of this, many wonder if there's crossplay between platforms, so friends can play together. The answer, it turns out, is not completely straightforward.

Why Palworld Doesn't Have Crossplay With The PS5 (Yet)

Pocketpair Is Working On A Future Update

Developer Pocketpair doesn't have an official statement available online about the status of crossplay now that the game has been released on the PS5. However, it's posted an unofficial FAQ for PS5 players on the Pocketpair Discord server.

According to the Discord FAQ, there is currently no crossplay between the PS5 and other platforms. However, it seems that crossplay is in the works, as the full Discord response reads, "Not at launch, no."

In fact, multiplayer in general is limited on the PS5 at launch. There are currently no multiplayer servers for the PS5 version of Palworld. Servers will be released soon, though, so fans are encouraged to stay tuned for the update. There is, however, co-op play between fans playing on the PS5. To launch a co-op game, players must enable multiplayer mode in the "World Settings," then share their server invite code with whoever they want to play with.

Finally, according to the Discord FAQ, there are no plans for a PS4 port at this time. This means that when the PS5 does get crossplay functionality, it will only be playable between the PS5, PC, and Xbox copies.

Does Palworld Have Crossplay Between PC And Xbox?

Yes, But There's A Catch With How Multiplayer Works

While there is no crossplay between the PS5 and the other platforms, there is some limited crossplay for PC and Xbox s. According to a post by Gerardo CG on the Microsoft community forum, Palworld players who bought the game from the Microsoft Store can crossplay with Xbox players and vice versa.

Unfortunately, there is no crossplay between the Steam version of the game and Xbox consoles. In addition to that, players on Discord also confirm that the Steam PC version has no crossplay at all, meaning that fans who own the Steam version can't play with those who have the Microsoft Store PC version. This is probably because the game is running different versions on Steam and Microsoft.

Developers Pocketpair have confirmed on X that crossplay is planned as a future update. Until then, fans will just have to play Palworld without crossplay between consoles and versions.
