Cute and co-operative MMO Palia's new expansion, the Elderwood, introduced lots of new mechanics alongside a huge new zone to explore. With lots of quests, critters, and new gatherables, there are plenty of things to keep you busy while you take in the sights. One such new feature is relics, powerful new equipment that will aid you in gathering the Elderwood's new currency of Infected Essence.
The Elderwood expansion has lots of new content for you to discover, such as magical potions now available from Tamala and even the ability to craft your own stable board for better fast travel. Much of the Elderwood-specific content relies on Infected Essence, which can be used to purchase items from Tamala and Subira, and is gathered by interacting with the infected wildlife in the new zone. This can be a slow process, but it is made much easier with the introduction of relics, which give great buffs to you and your party.
How To Get Relics In Palia
Exchange Artifacts For Tokens To Buy Relic Schematics
Relics are unlocked by purchasing the crafting recipe for them from Elouisa at the Elderwood Central Stable after completing the quest “Pieces of the Past”. This introduces you to the mechanics of artifacts and relics, and Elouisa and Caleri will explain how to donate artifacts. Turning in the initial artifact will reward you with one of Elouisa's Fun Bucks, which can be exchanged for either a relic schematic or the Artifact Tracker.

Palia: How To Get To The Elderwood
Palia's big expansion adds a whole new zone for players to quest and gather resources in, and explore, but where exactly is the Elderwood?
I highly recommend getting the Artifact Tracker before buying any relic schematics, as it will make finding the artifact spots much easier. Artifact spots will be displayed on the com and can be dug up using a gardening hoe. From there, artifacts can be turned in to add to the various bundles, and when a bundle is complete, you will be rewarded with more of Elouisa's Fun Bucks, which can be spent on relic schematics.
Duplicate artifacts can be traded with other players using the trade booths located at the Elderwood Central Stables, allowing you to help your friends and others complete bundles.
Each relic schematic will unlock a new quest from Elouisa, where she will walk you through the set of items needed to craft the relic. After gathering the necessary items and buying an Enchanting Runestone from Tamala, the relic can be crafted. This can only be done in the Elderwood Central Stables at the Relic Crafter table.
What Each Elderwood Relic Does
Each Of The Four Relics Offers A Different Buff
There are four relics to collect and craft in Palia, with each offering a different buff to you and anyone you are in a party with. Once the relics have been crafted, they can be upgraded, and each relic has four tiers. Each of these tiers increases the buff, making the relic more useful.
Relic |
Tier I |
Tier II |
Tier III |
Tier IV |
---|---|---|---|---|
Bag of Illusion |
Allows you to gather from infected plants and trees without using Tamala's Elderwood potion. |
Same as the previous tier and also allows you to catch infected insects without needing special smoke bombs. |
Same as previous tiers and also allows you to catch infected fish without the need for a special attachment. |
Same as previous tiers and also allows you to hunt infect creatures without needing special arrows. |
Brighteye Amulet |
Grants a small bonus to all Infected Essence gathered from infected creatures and gatherables. |
Grants a medium bonus to all Infected Essence gathered from infected creatures and gatherables. |
Grants a large bonus to all Infected Essence gathered from infected creatures and gatherables. |
Grants a massive bonus to all Infected Essence gathered from infected creatures and gatherables. |
Elderwood Idol |
Allows you to track infected trees and plants on your com. |
Same as previous tier and also allows you to track infected insects. |
Same as previous tiers and also allows you to track infected fish nodes. |
Same as previous tiers and also allows you to track infected huntable creatures. |
Guiding Lantern |
Boosts the other relics in a party to Tier II. |
Boosts the other relics in a party to Tier III. |
Boosts the other relics in a party to Tier IV. |
Boosts the other relics in a party to beyond their current tier limits. |
I found that the Bag of Illusion is best for solo play as it allows Elderwood resources to be gathered much easier without needing to waste time and materials on special ammo. The Guiding Lantern and Elderwood Idol are excellent for when you are in a group, as the buffs will be shared, letting everyone track and gather Infected Essence.
How To Equip & Upgrade Relics
Relics Can Be Equipped & Upgrade At The Central Stables.
To equip a relic, you will need to be at the Elderwood Central Stables and open your inventory. You will have a new accessory space, in between your glider and pet, which can be clicked on to open a new pop-up. From there, you can choose which relic to equip, as only one can be equipped at once.
Upgrades for relics can be purchased from Elouisa's stand at the Central Stables using Elouisa's Fun Bucks. Each one will have a crafting requirement, and you will need to gather resources from around the Elderwood. Once gathered, you need to return to one of Palia's new Relic Crafters to create the new upgraded relic.
