The Vampire Diaries spinoff series, The Originals, follows the exploits of the Original vampire family as they take on New Orleans and the challenge of raising Klaus' daughter, Hope. While the series mostly revolved around the idea of family, it also focuses on the romantic and sometimes hateful relationships that these characters have with the local werewolves, witches and everything in between.
This being said, there are plenty of great couples that arise throughout the show, however, each season, there is one pairing that impacts the story and audiences way more than others. These are some of the best in the series, as they depict that these often very jaded characters can still love other people.
Season 1: Cami & Klaus
Klaus and Cami genuinely enjoyed each other and had great chemistry, up until she found out about what Klaus is and what awful things he has done in the past that have directly affected her. She trusted him and believed he was an ordinary misunderstood guy when in reality, he was the reason she lost her brother and, later, her uncle, Kieran.
Klaus, on the other hand, knew exactly who Cami was from the moment he met her and he instantly fell in love with her fearlessness and the fact that she owned her mortality and didn't let it control her. Not to mention, Cami was a psychology student and Klaus wanted her to know he was an actually good person without being blinded by his previous misdeeds.
Season 2: Hayley & Jackson
Hayley and Jackson were destined to be together from Hayley's conception and although they were awkward when they first encountered each other when Jackson was no longer a wolf, they grew into a gentle kind of love. While this whole relationship was forced on Hayley by the Crescent Moon pack, she realized that her duty was to help them and, all in all, Jackson cared about her way more than Klaus, her baby daddy.
Hayley and Jackson made a good and steady pairing, and even though Klaus tried to disrupt their wedding day, he didn't come in the way of Hayley and what she truly wanted, which was a family that loved her as if they knew her forever. Jackson, upon his first introduction to her, committed to this idea and immediately showed dedication to her needs. They weren't perfect, but they developed a beautiful bond after their wedding.
Season 3: Davina & Kol
Davina and Kol have an extremely tumultuous relationship that seems to be at the focal point of the story in season 3 as Davina begins to worry more and more about Kol who is easily one of the show's best characters. Even though he lied to her about who he was originally and used her for her magic for a while in season 2, he did eventually come clean and she accepted him whole-heartedly.
As a couple, they are both ionate about one another, which makes sense considering they both like to make brash decisions with the immense amount of power they each have. Kol is always conniving, but when he's thinking about Davina, he makes better decisions and, in turn, she makes him a better person.
Season 4: Hayley & Elijah
Hayley and Elijah had an on and off relationship throughout the course of The Originals as they both constantly dealt with outside pressures that threatened to kill her daughter, Hope. That being said, Elijah, who is one of the most intelligent characters on The Originals, was extremely caring of Hayley and always worried about her safety above anyone else, including himself. Elijah respected her and her choices, which is something that no one else in this show does.
The biggest problem was the fact that Klaus still felt like he owned Hayley and didn't approve of his brother's romantic interest in the mother of his own child. Because of this, Elijah and Hayley mostly dated in secret, which made their love affair that much more steamy. Even though they eventually broke up so that they could better protect their family, they had a genuine hold on audiences in season 4.
Season 5: Freya & Keelin
Freya and Keelin not only have the best love story on season 5 of The Originals, but they are also one of the best couples in the entire show. Not only do they constantly one another, but they also compromise when it comes to each other's differences in their desires. Although they spent a lot of time as a long-distance couple and broke up for a bit, they realized that they needed each other in their lives and Freya proposed as soon as she came to this conclusion.
Even with Freya's fear of what would happen to her firstborn because of Dahlia, she agreed to have a baby with Keelin, with Vincent as the baby's surrogate father. All in all, this couple is one of the most loving and rational of the whole series, and the fact that they came back together after a time apart shows how deep their connection truly is.
