Summary
- Jane Lynch teases Sazz's arc in Only Murders in the Building season 4, saying it'll include flashbacks and more overall screen time.
- Lynch's character, Sazz, becomes a murder victim in the season 3 finale, setting up a compelling storyline for season 4.
- Her role as Sazz in Only Murders has already landed Lynch an Emmy Award nomination for Guest Actress in a Comedy.
Sazz’s the cast of Only Murders in the Building has included Amy Ryan, Cara Delevingne, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep and more. Lynch portrays Sazz Pataki, a recurring character and stunt double of Martin's Charles-Haden Savage, who was mysteriously killed during the season 3 finale.
In a recent interview with People, Lynch discussed her Only Murders in the Building season 4 role and teased how much screen time she’ll have. Because Sazz is now the “murder victim,” Lynch revealed there will be flashbacks, but that her character would “also appear in [the season] another way.” Read more of Lynch’s quote below:
"Well, I'm the murder victim, which is not a tease. And so I have some really great flashbacks... I don't want to give it away though, but I'm in it a lot. I'm in five out of 10 episodes, so I'm excited."
Incorporating Sazz's Arc In Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Is Exciting
Despite her minor role throughout previous seasons of Only Murders in the Building, the hilarious resemblance to Charles and constant voluntary advice made Lynch’s character a fan-favorite. However, after the successful opening night of “Death Rattle,” and uncovering the truth behind Ben Glenroy’s death, Sazz was shot in Charles’ apartment. The surprising misdirect ensured that Charles was safe, but co-creator John Hoffman teased that Sazz’s murder may affect the group, and that it'd come with more backstory in season 4.
For her role in Only Murders in the Building, Lynch received an Emmy Award nomination for Guest Actress in a Comedy.
As Lynch revealed, audiences can expect Sazz to appear in flashbacks, though it’s worth wondering if she’ll engage in any sort of imaginary conversation with Charles, similar to how Mabel and Ben talked following the latter’s death. Nevertheless, it will be exciting to finally visit Sazz outside of her relationship with Charles, and to make sense of what happened during the Only Murders in the Building season 3 finale. One question many audiences still have is whether the bullet was intended for Sazz or Charles, given that the apartment was completely dark.
It will be interesting to see how Sazz's arc is explored in Only Murders in the Building season 4, and how Charles in particular reacts. Based on Lynch's comments, the coming episodes will feature much more Sazz, which is great news for such a fan-favorite but relatively minor character.
Only Murders in the Building is available to stream on Hulu.
