At MWC 2023, After years of being an independent brand owned by BBK Electronics, OnePlus announced that it had become part of Oppo in 2021, but would continue to retain its brand identity. Prior to that announcement, both brands had launched products with similar designs and features, so it comes as no surprise that trend has continued even after the merger.

OnePlus and Oppo's cooling devices are called the OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler and the Oppo 45W Liquid Cooler, respectively. Both are semiconductor-based water cooling systems made up of two parts that are linked together by a cord. One part attaches to the smartphone while the other larger part is home to the cooling fan, pump, and cooling liquid. When a power source is connected to the larger half and the other end is attached to a smartphone, it has the ability to reduce the temperature of the phone by different margins. The OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler can reduce the temperature by up to 20° C, while the Oppo 45W Liquid Cooler is capable of up to a 13° C reduction.

It is not just the cooling capability that is different. A key difference between the two cooling devices is their design. Although the main part which houses the components is pretty much the same, save for color differences, the other half that connects to a smartphone is quite different. OnePlus has settled for a clamp-like design that connects securely to the smartphone, while Oppo's device has a black puck-like connector that attaches magnetically to the back of a smartphone in a fashion similar to a MagSafe charger. Furthermore, while the OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler will work with any smartphone that can fit into the clamp, its compatibility is limited compared to Oppo's cooling device.

In a promotional video, the Oppo 45W Liquid Cooler is shown to work not just with smartphones, but even tablets and laptops. All a has to do is attach it to the back or underside of the tablet or laptop, and it will begin to cool the device. However, an adapter ring that allows the puck to stay in place when attached is required. Another difference between the two devices is that the Oppo 45W Liquid Cooler can wirelessly charge a smartphone at up to 10W. This means s can simultaneously cool and charge their smartphone, provided it s wireless charging. Unfortunately, the OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler doesn't have charging capabilities.

While pricing and availability details for the two devices are yet to be revealed, the Oppo 45W Liquid Cooler is the better model among the two, and the one most buyers should pick up. This is because its versatile design isn't limited to smartphones, and it can also double up as a wireless charger for compatible devices. These additional features could result in a higher price tag than the OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler, but for gamers in particular, it's a handy way to ensure optimal device performance.
