Usopp tells a lot of lies during the early days of the One Piece has more than half a billion copies in print and has been running for over two decades, but its world continues to expand. Even now, more characters are getting introduced into the series, and more are yet to come. Despite the increasing amount of characters, each one is still interestingly unique. No quirks are being recycled, and everyone is essential to the story. Of course, those introduced during the initial stages of the series have peculiar personalities, especially the of the Straw Haw Pirates.
One of the earliest characters, even among the Straw Hats, is Usopp. His character revolves around bluffing and acting tough. As the story progresses, however, he becomes worthy of being part of Luffy's crew. During his days as a youngster in Syrup Village, Usopp is a laughing stock who always cries "pirates" to rile up the villagers. He also tells Kaya, the rich and sickly girl he likes, false tales of grand adventures he has experienced. But as it turns out, some of his stories are actually foreshadowing. Here are some of Usopp's lies to Kaya that later become reality.
5 The Giant Goldfish And Island-Sized Poop
One story Usopp would tell Kaya to cheer her up relates to him meeting a giant goldfish in the Southern seas. According to him, the goldfish's poop is so large that he mistook it for an island, so he anchored his ship there. He also claims that he sliced the fish and fed it to a country of little people.
This legend didn't take long to come true because, during the Little Garden Arc, the Straw Hat Pirates meet two rivaling giants who were former pirates; they also meet the terrifying Island Eater. It is a giant goldfish that almost rivals the size of a Sea King. It's said to eat ships and islands as a whole, which is also the reason a lot of ships don't reach their destination. It's so big that its poop is also referred to as Nanimonai Island. As a thanks and send-off gift to the Straw Hat Pirates, Brogy and Dorry kill it with one shot.
4 The Country of Dwarves
This lie is told in conjunction with the giant goldfish one. Usopp tells Kaya that after he defeated the giant goldfish, he sliced it up and served it to an entire country of small people. Not only that, he also claims that they have still yet to finish the entire goldfish. Usopp happens to find that exact country during the Dressrossa arc.
To be exact, the dwarven-like Tontatta's abduct Usopp and Robin and bring them to Tontatta Kingdom. However, Usopp manages to escape their tight situation in the most Usopp-esque way possible. He tells them tales that are full of lies and even claims that he's a descendant of Montblanc Noland, the hero who first found the City of Gold, and calls himself Usoland. Because of this, the dwarves see him as their hero and let him and Robin go. They even rally behind Usopp and raid the factory under the Corrida Colosseum to save Mansherry.
3 The Giant Mole
Thanks to Luffy and the others, Usopp is busted by Kaya's butler, who is secretly the dastardly and murderous Captain Kuro. Trying to get out of his sticky situation, Usopp resorts to his usual antics. He tells Kuro that he is investigating a huge mole burrowing under the mansion. Of course, Kuro immediately calls out his lie and mocks Usopp's father for being a pirate. The situation escalated quickly from there, but it wouldn't be the last time a mole would ruin Usopp's day.
The of Crocodile's Baroque Works reveal themselves during the Arabasta arc. Miss Merry Christmas, Mr. 4's partner, consumes the Mogu Mogu no Mi, which turns her into a half-mole, half-human being. Interestingly, she and Mr. 4 are matched against Usopp and Chopper. During their match, Miss Merry Christmas digs a lot of gigantic holes while Usopp tries to smash her head using his gigantic hammer. The battle staring two of the Straw Hat pirate's weakest fighters surprisingly became one of One Piece's best fights that also saw one of Usopp's lies coming true.
On a more figurative note, Usopp's mole lie has already been realized during his first arc. Kuro has been researching and plotting against Kaya throughout his employment in Kaya's mansion. In a way, this makes him a mole, one who is trying to usurp Kaya's wealth.
2 The Medicine That Cures All Illnesses
Usopp doesn't directly tell this one to Kaya, but it's still a lie Usopp has made up and Kaya hears through Merry. After Usopp s Luffy and becomes a Straw Hat Pirate, Kaya confesses to Merry how hard it is to lie. As much as she wants Usopp to realize his dream of becoming a true brave warrior of the sea, she also wants to stop him from leaving her. Because of that, Merry tells Kaya Usopp's backstory and the source of one of Usopp's lies that connects to one of One Piece's greatest treasures.
According to Merry, Usopp's lies started back when he was a child. When his father left to continue sailing, Usopp's mother fell sick. In a futile attempt to cheer her up, Usopp came running every morning, telling her that pirates were coming ashore. He told her that his father was coming back as soon as she got better. His mother, however, knew these claims were nothing but lies. Usopp also told her about a medicine that cures everything, but she, of course, knew better. However, Usopp did find that medicine many years too late in Dresserosa.
Mansherry, the princess of Tontatta Kingdom, later eats Chiyu Chiyu no Mi, which grants her the ability to heal any living being's injury and restore any inanimate object's former structure. Because of this power, Doflamingo keeps her as a backup in case the SMILE factory gets destroyed. Her power is so potent that she manages to heal the wounded villagers after the Straw Hats' battle with Doflamingo. But despite the potency of Mansherry's Devil Fruit, she isn't really a medicine, so this lie is still just half-realized.
1 Usopp's Other True Lies
Now that One Piece is entering the final saga of its story, there is still time for more of Usopp's lies to come true. Mainly because many of the bluffs the Straw Hat sniper has made to other characters besides Kaya continue to become true and even foreshadow what could be massive One Piece spoilers. One example is Usopp and his childhood friends playing in Syrup Village, chasing stray animals and referring to them as fantastical beasts, like a stray dog being a Cerberus and a lizard being a Dragon. Creatures that Usopp would later encounter in Thriller Park and Punk Hazard.
Besides pulling off one of One Piece's most impressive attacks, Usopp accomplished many wonders in Dressrosa that will likely pay off later in the series. By rescuing the thousands of slaves under Sugar's power, he gained many followers and the title of God Usopp. And if the long-nosed Star Hat Pirate continues to be in the right place at the right time and take credit for outstanding feats, Usopp may be known as a god who helped Luffy become the next Pirate King. But that is a One Piece fable that has yet to come true.
