Early in Monkey D. Luffy's adventures as a pirate, he One Piece excluding Luffy: Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jimbe. With space for one more member, this has led to many theories about who will be One Piece's final Straw Hat. In almost every arc, a new character is introduced who either s the Straw Hat crew, sails with them for some time, or makes a strong candidate to be their new crewmate.

Vivi, for instance, is one of the earliest candidates. Introduced in Chapter 103, she stays with the Straw Hats till the end of Alabasta, over 100 chapters later. She could have ed the Straw Hats, but she chose to stay in her country and would eventually make a reappearance to the series post-time skip, but it would be separate from the Straw Hats. As a beloved character, Vivi's arrival in Netflix's live-action One Piece is highly anticipated; however, there is another honorary Straw Hat who could make their first appearance in Season 2.

Vivi Is Not The Only Baroque Works Member To Fall For The Straw Hats

Bon Clay May Have Started Off As A Villain, But That Did Not Last

While Crocodile is the main villain in Alabasta, he has a network of pirates and assassins working for him known as Baroque Works, who will play a major role in Netflix's One Piece Season 2. Vivi has infiltrated this group as one of its , but she is not the only one to eventually ally with the Straw Hats. While most of the legit of Baroque Works are enemies of the Straw Hats, one of the highest-ranking -- Miss All Sunday -- becomes a beloved Straw Hat pirate and is set to make her live-action debut soon.

Another high-ranking member allies themselves with the Straw Hats, even though they do not officially become a Straw Hat in the manga or anime. That is Bon Clay, AKA Mr. 2. They meet the Straw Hats as Luffy's crew makes their way to Alabasta, and at first, Bon Clay does not realize they are enemies of Baroque Works. As a result, Bon Clay quickly befriends them and vice versa. That is until Bon Clay learns the truth, following Crocodile orders up until he loses to Sanji and Baroque Works falls. Bon Clay then devotes themselves to the Straw Hats, who are embroiled in yet another predicament with the marines.

Not only does Bon Clay hide the Going Merry to keep it out of sight from the marines until Luffy and crew return, but Bon Clay also impersonates the Straw Hats with their crew's help. While this cost Bon Clay their freedom, it shows Bon Clay's true character, as they hold friendship in such high regard, a value Bon Clay and Luffy share. Plus, this is not just a beautiful sign of friendship, but it is also an epic sacrifice, as Bon Clay and their crew battle the marines without hesitation.

There Would Be No One Piece Without Bon Clay

Bon Clay Has Sacrificed For The Straw Hats Multiple Times

If it were not for Bon Clay, the Straw Hats may not have escaped the marines. This act of friendship greatly endears Bon Clay to the Straw Hats, Luffy, in particular. Thankfully, like many characters in One Piece, this is not the end of Bon Clay, as they would return in Impel Down, the highest security prison under the World Government. This place is hell on Earth for the prisoners, but that does not get the better of Bon Clay. They still have their bright personality and hopeful optimism, which comes in handy when Luffy finds himself in Impel Down.

Bon Clay not only helps Luffy through Impel Down as he tries to find Ace before it is too late, but they also save Luffy's life after he is poisoned. Against all odds, including the freezing cold and vicious wolves, Bon Clay carries a dying Luffy to Ivankov, the only person in Impel Down who can save him. Even when Luffy is in good hands, Bon Clay stands by his side during a painful, prolonged procedure, literally cheering Luffy on to the point of collapse. If it were not for Bon Clay, Luffy could have died in Impel Down, never returning to his crew and bringing One Piece to a tragic end.

That alone would make Bon Clay Straw Hat Material, especially after their earlier sacrifice in Alabasta. However, Bon Clay's sacrifices for his friends do not stop here. When Luffy and his rag-tag group of escapees, including Crocodile, Ivankov, and Buggy, need to get past the Gates of Justice, Bon Clay, using their devil fruit abilities, stays behind to open the gates for them. If it were not for Bon Clay, none of them would have escaped. Bon Clay gives up their chance at freedom, fully prepared to face the consequences of his actions with no regrets.

Netflix's Live Action One Piece Sets Up Baroque Works

Season 2 Of One Piece Is Bringing Baroque Works, So Where Is Mr. 2?

Bon Clay's dedication to his friends, as well as the lengths they will go for them, makes them one of the most loyal characters in One Piece, something that is deeply valued among the Straw Hats. At the time of this writing, it is unknown what happened to Bon Clay once the others escaped Impel Down. While they could have faced the ultimate punishment for their actions, that seems unlikely since it's not been confirmed. Plus, One Piece has faked the deaths of numerous characters before, like with Alabsta's Pell.

This could hopefully be the case for Bon Clay, especially once One Piece enters its endgame. Seeing the former Baroque Works member return and properly be added to the Straw Hat Pirates' crew would be a delight and well-earned. However, if Bon Clay does not make a return in the manga or anime soon, fans of theirs can hopefully see the live-action version of the character soon. After all, Season 2 of One Piece is introducing more Baroque Works , so Mr. 2 should be making their debut soon as well.
