WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ONE PIECE EPISODE #1093

Summary

  • Blackbeard's overwhelming power and utilization of two devil fruits make him a terrifyingly dangerous opponent.
  • The battle in episode #1093 showcases the destructive abilities of Blackbeard with incredible animation and direction.
  • It is uncertain how Luffy can overcome Blackbeard's abilities, indicating a potentially intense final battle between the two.

One Piece's anime has delivered the best fight from the Egghead Island arc yet that's made Luffy's ultimate rival, Blackbeard, more intimidating than ever. After the epic conclusion of Wano, Luffy, Kid, and Law drew straws to determine the direction of their next adventure. Unfortunately, Trafalgar Law's choice led his crew directly into Blackbeard, whose overwhelming power has proven worthy of being Luffy's final opponent before becoming the next King of the Pirates.

Episode #1093 of the One Piece anime featured the anticipated battle between Law and Blackbeard. While the battle was covered in less than a single chapter in the manga, incredible animation and shocking direction expanded on the large-scale fight. Law's awakened devil fruit abilities proved useful but, as displayed in a post by X Hatchofly_, the amount of destruction Blackbeard demonstrated stole the show.

The Tremor-Tremor fruit previously belonged to Edward Newgate, aka Whitebeard, who used it with devastating effects during The War of the Summit. Being what many in the One Piece world regard as the strongest paramecia devil fruit, it was used to create tsunamis and decimate the Marines' headquarters. Still, as the newest of the fruit, Blackbeard proved to be a dangerous foe in episode #1093 that even Luffy will have a hard time beating.

If Luffy Fights Blackbeard, The Straw Hat Captain Is In Trouble

One Piece created by Eiichiro Oda, anime produced by Toei Animation

Since author Eiichiro Oda first introduced Blackbeard in chapter #223, he's been presented as nearly the exact opposite of Luffy. The two Worst Generation Pirates have been growing their reputation at a similar pace, with both currently holding the rank of Pirate Emperor, aka Yonko. Still, episode #1093 showed the terrifying results of Blackbeard's journey to collect the world's strongest Devil Fruits for him and his crew. And the results proved to be more tragic for Law's Heart Pirates than the One Piece anime-only watchers may have suspected.

Marshall D. Teach is currently the only person in One Piece to control two different devil fruits, the Tremor-Tremor Fruit and the Dark-Dark Fruit. By stealing Whitebeard's power, Teach can now control vibrations at a seismic scale to create earthquakes, whirlpools, and shockwaves capable of obliterating mountains. That, combined with his Dark- Dark Fruit, a Logia-type that can neutralize devil fruit abilities, makes Blackbeard an unfair opponent to fight for nearly every pirate across One Piece's seas.

The Straw Hats Might Be The Only Ones Capable Of Taking On Blackbeard's Crew

One Piece is currently in its final saga, so it seems necessary for Blackbeard and Luffy to fight before the story ends. The two pirates briefly battled during the Impel Down arc, where Luffy was able to get the upper hand on Teach. Still, now that Blackbeard controls the Tremor fruit, it's unclear how the Straw Hat captain can triumph against the abilities episode #1093 showed off. Even with Gear 5, Luffy will have a tough time fighting Blackbeard, a battle that could come sooner than fans expect or be the final battle of One Piece.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a multimedia franchise that began as a manga series and follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as led by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, an enthusiastic pirate with a thirst for adventure, is afflicted by a mysterious curse that gives him various powers he uses to protect himself and his friends. The manga eventually gave way to the anime series, with the two being some of history's longest-running anime and manga series. Along with over fifty video games made over the years, the series entered the live-action world with Netflix's 2023 adaptation.
