Roger, who was executed by the orders of the World Government. However, prior to his death, Roger challenges the world to find his greatest treasure, the titular One Piece. While no one knows what the One Piece truly is, it is something of great value. The confirmation that Roger's treasure is out there for the taking is enough to get countless people excited about the opportunity to find the One Piece, thus ushering in a new age of piracy.
Pirates like Shanks, Buggy, Doflamingo, Crocodile, and Mihawk heard this challenge at Roger's execution, as did many others. However, years after Rogers' death, the One Piece has still not been found. Even Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hats haven't found the One Piece, but they have become aware of the true fate of the world. With the world destined to sink into the ocean, it appears Gol D. Rogers' challenge was not just about riches. It is also about preparing this generation and the next for the dangers to come.
Egghead Revealed The True Fate Of The World
Pirates Will Thrive If Vegapunk Is Right
The anime is still powering through Egghead, with intelligent character in One Piece, it should not be much of a surprise that Vegapunk has been investigating the secrets of the world.

Before One Piece Ends, 10 Long-Awaited Reunions Need to Go Down
One of One Piece's most anticipated unions happened in the recent manga arc, but there are more reunions fans eagerly await.
Like the historians of Ohara, Vegapunk's research has led him to investigate the Void Century, a period of time unknown to society, but during this time, the World Government eventually came to power after a great conflict. It's also believed that the secrets of the Void Century will be revealed by the Poneglyphs, which are key to finding Roger's One Piece. Along with this, Vegapunk's research has revealed that the countries of the world will eventually sink, forcing humanity to adapt to life at sea or die. For pirates like Roger, though, adapting to a life like this would not be so hard.
Gol D. Rogers Does Not Just Want Pirates To Search For The One Piece
Gol D. Rogers Wants The World To Prepare For A Life At Sea
Not only was Roger, as well as his crew, prepared to live a long life at sea, regardless of the state of the world, it is also believable that Roger was well-aware of the tragic fate that the world and humanity faced. After all, Roger discovered the truth about the Void Century once he reached the island of Laugh Tale, where the One Piece is most likely located. While Laugh Tale and what the Pirate King discovered there are still a mystery, things are starting to become clear.
Like Vegapunk, Roger probably learned what the fate of the world would be, and while he did not have the power to stop it then, he could at least prepare the next generation for what's to come. With the One Piece likely on Laugh Tale, whoever discovers it will also learn the truth, like Roger and his crew. However, discovering the One Piece and the truth that comes with it is not the only way to prepare for what seems to be the inevitable. Going on the journey for the One Piece alone would prepare someone for the dangers of the Grand Line and New World.

8 One Piece Characters Who Are Still Waiting to Make a Grand Return
One Piece has seen characters from the past make a grand return, but there are plenty of others fans want to see come back.
Pirates who accept the challenge would need to explore the far corners of the ocean, learn to live for long periods of time at sea, and make allies with other pirates. For the pirates they cannot befriend, they would need to learn to go toe to toe with them. Even for the many who have failed and will fail to find the One Piece, if they accept Roger's challenge to go out to sea and search for his riches, their chances of surviving the doomed fate of the world are much greater than those who did not search for the One Piece.
Gol D. Roger's Crew Prepares For The End Of The World
Shanks, Rayleigh, And Crocus Are Prepared For The Sinking
What further points to Roger and his crew knowing the fate of the world is what his crew did after Roger's death. His right-hand man, Silvers Rayleigh, for instance, has made a life for himself at Sabody, the final stopping point before entering the New World. However, to enter the New World, one needs to go through Fish-Man Island, which is underwater. To do so, their ships must be coated to survive such a journey, and Rayleigh is the man who can provide such a service.
Rayleigh is not only preparing pirates for the New World, but coating ships will also be essential once all the countries sink into the ocean. Not only has Rayleigh prepared himself for this apocalypse with his craft, but he's also taken it upon himself to provide such a crucial service to those already preparing themselves for the future, even though they are unaware of the fate of the world.

When Netflix’s One Piece Returns, the Debut of Ms. All Sunday Will Change Everything for Good
With Nico Robin, AKA Ms. All Sunday, coming to Netflix's One Piece, some major changes and revelations will be made for the popular streaming series.
Rayleigh is not the only member of the crew to prepare for this future, as Crocus, Roger's doctor, has made a life for himself living inside a whale, Laboon. Like Rayleigh, Crocus has found a lifestyle that he can maintain if the sinking of the world is inevitable.
Meanwhile, Shanks, who was an apprentice to Roger, follows in his footsteps in search of the One Piece, but he does so without Devil Fruit s. Others have theorized that Shanks and his crew did not eat Devil Fruits because Shanks knows the Egghead One Piece twist, further ing the theory that Roger knew as well and wanted to prepare others for the sinking of the world.
While Devil Fruits give those who consume them powers, it comes at a cost. Those who eat Devil Fruits cannot swim, which is a massive problem for a pirate. However, this will be more dangerous once the world sinks. This will not be the case for Shanks and his crew, though. How Roger's crew have lived their lives after his death, as well as the revelations from Egghead, point to Roger knowing the fate of the world before his death and planning to prepare the next One Piece generation for this fate through a challenge very few could refuse.
