One of the most hyped rematches in Luffy is about to collide with Rob Lucci, but the Straw Hat captain will likely wipe the floor with the enemy that gave him so much trouble in the past.
Rob Lucci is a member of the top-secret organization called 0, which includes only the deadliest assassins and secret agents working for the World Government. He was the main antagonist of the Enies Lobby Arc, when Nico Robin was abducted and the Straw Hats rushed to her rescue. The final battle against Lucci pushed Luffy to his limits like no other opponent had done before, forcing him to unleash a new technique, Gear Third, to beat the powerful government agent. A long time has ed since then, and Luffy is now one of the strongest pirates in the world, who defeated even the unbeatable Yonko, Kaido of the Beasts. However, this is not the reason why Luffy's rematch with Lucci will be a one-sided massacre.
The Straw Hat Pirates have recently arrived at Egghead Island, the laboratory of the famed genius Dr. Vegapunk. After years of working for the World Government, Vegapunk has outlived his usefulness, and 0 has been dispatched to kill him. According to a spoilers thread on Reddit, in chapter #1068 of One Piece, Lucci, Kaku, and Stussy infiltrate Egghead along with their soldiers. There, they are confronted by one of Vegapunk's clones, Atlas, who is however easily dispatched by Lucci with a powerful blow. At that moment, Luffy arrives on the scene and sees Lucci standing over Atlas' destroyed body.
Lucci Made A Huge Mistake In Hurting Atlas
What seals Lucci's fate is not the fact that Luffy challenged Kaido in Wano was that the people of the country were starving, including O-Tama, a little girl who shared what little food she had with Luffy. Seeing Atlas injured will trigger Luffy's rage way more than any memory he may have about Lucci, and the 0 agent will have to face the full wrath of a Yonko, something that even Marine irals are wary of doing.
Fans of One Piece are fully expecting to see Luffy quickly obliterating Lucci in the next chapter. Sometimes, in manga and anime, old enemies come back to showcase the growth of the protagonist, and this could be one of those occasions. However, One Piece is never that predictable, which means that there could still be some unexpected surprise in Luffy and Lucci's much-hyped rematch.
