One Piece has finally revealed how the Revolutionary Army was created by Monkey D. Dragon, the most wanted criminal in the world and the father of the manga's protagonist, Luffy. Despite appearing early in the series, Dragon and the Revolutionaries are still mostly a mystery, but One Piece is slowly starting to unveil more about their past.

While Luffy has finally become one of the most wanted and powerful pirates in the world, the rest of his family is no less extraordinary. Luffy's grandfather, Monkey D. Garp, is a vice iral known as "the Hero of the Marines", recognized in the past as a true rival to the Pirate King. Garp's son, Dragon, took a radically opposite path in his life and became the founder and leader of the Revolutionary Army, the only organization that openly opposes the tyrannical World Government. Surprisingly for such an important character, Dragon's past is still shrouded in mystery, but One Piece has now at least revealed how he decided to create the Revolutionary Army.

Chapter #1066 of One Piece features a brief but meaningful flashback by the history of the Void Century. On the island, Vegapunk meets a young Dragon, who at the time was the leader of a group called Freedom Fighters. The tragedy of Ohara, a group of harmless academics obliterated by violence for simply speaking their minds freely, shook Dragon to the core, so he decided to create a real military force that could fight back against the World Government. In the span of one year, he ed forces with Emporio Ivankov and Bartholomew Kuma, and the Revolutionary Army was born.

Vegapunk's flashback reveals a lot of new interesting details about Dragon. First, he was actually a pacifist who hates war and created his army only because of the shock of the Ohara events. Second, Vegapunk is actually secretly working with Dragon to bring down the World Government from the inside.

One Piece has officially entered the final stretch of its amazing story, and all the plot threads laid by Eiichiro Oda during the past 25 years are beginning to unravel. It's really interesting to see that the tragedy of Ohara had such a long-lasting impact on the world, influencing the actions of many important figures. Dragon and the Revolutionaries are characters that absolutely deserve the spotlight, and this glimpse into their past just teased that there are even bigger revelations coming in One Piece's near future.
