The possibility of Quentin Tarantino releasing another Once Upon A Time In Hollywood extended cut remains and this is what's known so far. The original film came in at a solid 161 minutes, but past interviews with the seasoned director indicate that a further extended cut could come in at a whopping four hours. The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood universe is clearly a place Tarantino wants to explore, having released a novelization of the original film with alternative character beats. There’s a second novel on the way called The Films Of Rick Dalton, a potential TV show called Bounty Law, and Tarantino has even voiced plans to explore Rick Dalton’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) time in Italy through a stage adaptation. The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood universe is clearly important to Tarantino and another extended cut of the film seems inevitable.

Tarantino and the cast of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood have made several allusions to a potential four-hour extended cut - expanding the story of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton - including Nicholas Hammond who played Sam Wannamaker in the original theatrical release. During an interview (via The Mutuals Interviews) in 2019 he said: “There is talk about there being a 4-hour Netflix version, as well, because there were a lot of scenes he shot that couldn’t make it into the film because there just simply wasn’t room.” Wannamaker isn’t the only one who has discussed the future of an extended addition and Tarantino himself has shed some light on when audiences could get to see it. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was released in the summer of 2019 and was a resounding success. The antics of Dalton and his stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), set in the quasi-accurate world of 60s Hollywood, resonated with audiences and critics alike. The resulting positive response to the film saw Tarantino release an extended cut of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood with new scenes later the same year. Four additional scenes culminated in 10 minutes of additional footage for the updated version.

Those four scenes have less to do with adding depth to the plot and more of an opportunity for Tarantino to flesh out the universe of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The first clip is an additional fake ment for Red Apple cigarettes and the second another fake advert for Old Chattanooga beer. Two further additional clips appear at the end of the film and include a clip from Lancer, a Tarantino adapted version of the 60s western of the same name. Interestingly Tarantino said fellow director, Robert Rodriguez, should fully adapt Tarantino’s version of the show utilizing DiCaprio's Dalton in character as the show’s villain. Finally, a Bounty Law scene seen earlier in the original film enjoys a longer runtime in Tarantino's first extended version. While these scenes certainly add to the runtime, they're far less comprehensive and in-depth than what's allegedly included in the four-hour Once Upon A Time In Hollywood extended cut.

The exact runtime of a future extended cut isn’t yet clear, but Tarantino and his cast have all suggested similar lengths. Hammond indicated in his interview that a four-hour version exists and could be translated to Netflix. During an interview (via Robbie might not have played Sharon Tate at all. Despite all of the speculation, the most recent update on the future film’s possible length comes from Tarantino himself. During a discussion with comedian Marc Macron (via WTF) Tarantino said the version he would want to give audiences would come in at around 3 hours and 20 minutes long.

For all the speculation, the question remains over what exactly audiences would get to see in an extended version of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. While being interviewed for Variety, Robbie said that she filmed a lot of footage that simply didn’t make it into the theatrical cut and it’s safe to assume that’s true for the main cast, including DiCaprio and Pitt. Damon Herriman, who played Charles Manson in the film, said (via Tim Roth spoke about his cut role during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. He filmed a cameo as a butler for Jay Sebring (Emile Hirsch). All this additional content does exist, it’s just up to Tarantino to pull it all together in the way he sees fit.

Tarantino has seemingly confirmed the release of an extended cut multiple times. In 2020 during a discussion (via Tarantino also has his 10th and final movie to think about. At the moment the only certainty appears to be that a Once Upon A Time In Hollywood extended cut does exist, Tarantino is keen on releasing it at some point, and that there is plenty of footage to pad it out.
