Hidden in the game are special weapons that are tied to the Viking sagas, with strong stats reflective of their mythic origin. One such armament is the legendary spear Gungnir, once wielded by Odin, the leader of the Norse Gods. This guide will help players find where this spear is and what quest is needed to be beaten to make it appear. Note that there are spoilers below for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so those that haven’t finished the story should return once they have.
Finding Gungnir in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
In order for this legendary spear to appear in the game world, players will first need to complete the story arc called, “A Brother’s Keeper”. This can only be accessed after beating Valhalla’s main story, so don’t expect to use Gungnir until after the game has been beaten. To begin this story arc, players will need to return to Norway. There, they will confront the protagonists’ brother, Sigurd, who will lead them through a series of quests. The final one, “In The Hall Of The Slain”, has players fight Odin head to head while he wields Gungnir himself! This battle is won through more than just raw strength, but wit as well. Once players have concluded the confrontation, they’ll have to fight another boss named Basim. He's a member of the Hidden Ones, which is an organization deeply tied to the series lore. After watching the final cutscenes, the player can set out in search of the spear.
Just like with the storyline, the spear can be found in Norway. Players must lead Eivor to the Northeastern portion of the map, labeled as the Hordafvlke region. There are many slopes, so reaching this area by sea is the quickest route. From there, they must climb up a giant fjord the rest of the way, through the piles of snow and rugged mountain terrain. At the end of the path lies a cave called Goinnhellir. Travel to the end of this cave to find the mythic weapon jutting out the side of a wall. Remove it, and it’s now the player’s to use.
