Leia’s legacy both as Anakin’s daughter and a potentially powerful Force-sensitive.
Obi-Wan Kenobi surprisingly paired Obi-Wan and a young Leia Organa for most of the show, an unexpected canon addition that very much changed Leia’s role in the original trilogy era. For example, Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed that Leia knew about the Force not just because of rumors and common knowledge, she was taught about the Force by Obi-Wan. Curiously, in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3, after Obi-Wan had taught Leia about the Force, it is possible to notice a Padawan-like braid in Leia’s hair. Considering that Obi-Wan and Leia had to disguise themselves to run from the Empire, it is very likely that Obi-Wan himself gave Leia that hairstyle, perhaps already anticipating she would one day become a Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Ultimately Helped Train Leia As A Jedi
Even before Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed Leia’s connection with Ben Kenobi, Star Wars had already established that Obi-Wan helped train Leia as a Jedi. In the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novelization by Rae Carson, readers get a better look at Leia’s journey to becoming a Jedi, which was only seen in Episode IX through a brief flashback sequence. The Rise of Skywalker’s novelization explains how “the Force itself” was teaching Leia, but that she would also hear the voices of Obi-Wan and Yoda from time to time. Before the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, it was assumed that Obi-Wan reached out to Leia due to his connection with the Skywalker family and their brief encounter in A New Hope, a perception that has now changed after Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Rise of Skywalker Fulfilled Obi-Wan's Hint Of Her Future
Obi-Wan had been a friend of Leia long before she even met Luke or found out about her lineage, and it was thanks to Obi-Wan that Leia first understood what the Force really was. Obi-Wan never got to significantly interact with Leia after the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi, at least in the current Star Wars canon, so it makes sense that he would later reach out to Leia after his death to guide his old friend into becoming a Jedi. Obi-Wan could not be sure that Leia would become a Jedi, as he and Bail had decided to let the Skywalker twins choose their own path. Still, Leia would eventually become a Jedi as revealed in The Rise of Skywalker.
Following the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan’s role in Leia’s Jedi training as established by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s novelization has a whole new meaning. Obi-Wan obviously knew of Leia’s potential, as she was the daughter of one the most powerful Jedi the galaxy had ever seen, but it was only a few years after Obi-Wan’s death that Leia truly started her Jedi path. Leia didn’t get to actually train with Obi-Wan and Yoda the same way Luke did, but their teachings were ed down to her both by her brother and by the Force itself. Once a Padawan in the eyes of Obi-Wan, Leia would one day even have an apprentice of her own, Rey.
