After Quaid's extensive filmography has grown exponentially.
After The Boys began, Quaid appeared in important roles in Scream (2022), Oppenheimer (2023), and Companion (2025). Outside his live-action roles, he is known for playing Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks, Superman in My Adventures with Superman, and the Lizard in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023). All of these roles showed Quaid's versatility, as he swung from a theoretical physicist to a hero to a remorseless monster without ever stumbling. Now, Quaid is starring in a critically renowned action movie.
Novocaine Has An Exceptional Tomatometer Score
Critics Love Quaid's New Action Movie
Jack Quaid's Novocaine Super Bowl trailer revealed, Quaid stars as Nathan Caine, a man without the ability to feel pain. After his girlfriend (Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage, Nathan is left with no choice but to rescue her. The movie is scheduled for a March 14 release. Dan Berk and Robert Olsen served as co-directors of the nearly two-hour-long film.
The action-packed movie has had a good showing on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing, it maintains a 92% Tomatometer score. This near-perfect total is based on 24 reviews with an average score of 7.0 out of 10. This is likely to change as more reviews come in, but it is certainly a positive sign for a movie that was based on an entirely new intellectual property. The next test of the movie's quality is likely to be the Popcornmeter score, which is based on audience responses and will be revealed within the next week.
Our Take On Novocaine's Rotten Tomatoes Success
This Is A Great Sign For Quaid
Quaid's latest movie could easily prove to have long legs at the box office. It is unlikely that audiences will race to the theaters to watch an original movie, given that 2024 was such a franchise-heavy year. Still, if audiences see that critics have nothing but praise for Novocaine, they may be more willing to take a risk. If they do, it would be a perfect result for a movie that ScreenRant's Rachel Labonte called "a rollicking adventure that... doesn't really let up" in her Novocaine review. Labonte gave the movie an 8 out of 10 score for good reason.
The Tomatometer score is important, but its long-term prospects will depend on the Popcornmeter score.
Unsurprisingly, Quaid is the biggest draw of the movie. Most of the reviewers praised his performance, but the premise was also unique enough to intrigue the critics. If it earns enough attention from general audiences in its first week, it should obtain good word-of-mouth and a strong box office run. The Tomatometer score is important, but its long-term prospects will depend on the Popcornmeter score, which more directly pertains to audience interests. As audiences flock to Novocaine this week, they will decide the fate of Quaid's latest action flick.
