Jojo's Bizarre Adventure may be one of the most aptly named anime series out there, if only because the various Jojo adventures truly are that bizarre. One never quite knows what to expect when walking into an episode of Jojo, and that's the way fans like it.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a series that runs on madness. The unique abilities of Jojo characters, known as Stands, can have some absolutely wild powers, making fights unpredictable and exciting to watch. Jojo is also known to feature plenty of other bizarre elements, from vampires to rock humans to orangutans with imaginary boats. The creative use of these various elements has led to Jojo becoming a one-of-a-kind story that's completely unlike any other anime out there. Here are some of the weirdest and most bizarre moments of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, at least to date.
8 Chef Tonio's Meals Are Intense
Diamond is Unbreakable, episode #10
Chef Tonio is a mysterious Italian chef who runs an eatery in Morioh. When Josuke and Okuyasu go for a meal, they soon discover that the food has some truly strange effects, such as when he drinks the water, and it causes tears to forcefully stream from his eyes. The chef soon explains the nature of the water, and Okuyasu feels refreshed. This repeats a few more times in increasingly absurd ways, as the food the chef brings out is so delicious and has such odd side effects that Josuke becomes convinced the chef is an enemy.

If You're On the Fence About JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, We Promise the Anime's New Season Will Make You a Believer
Diving into Jojo's Bizarre Adventure can be a daunting task, but the anime may just be the perfect place for hesitant fans to start.
But no, Chef Tonio is just a good guy who likes to use his Stand, Pearl Jam, as a way to make his food even tastier and more beneficial to anyone who tries it. The episode really ramps viewers up for a sinister reveal that never comes; instead, Chef Tonio becomes an ally for the rest of the series, although he mostly sticks to his kitchen.
7 Jojo Introduces Aliens--or Does It?
Diamond is Unbreakable, episode #27
Diamond is Unbreakable is full of weird moments, but it’s hard to top Mikitaka. Discovered by Josuke and Okuyasu lying in a crop circle, Mikitaka consistently claims to be an alien from the Magellanic Cloud, here to find out if Earth is a suitable home for his people. Mikitaka looks a bit odd, with elf-like ears and tremendously long blonde hair, as well as a very pale complexion. When offered tissues, Mikitaka simply eats them, packaging and all—Josuke and Okuyasu’s first sign that maybe this guy isn’t joking about being an alien after all.
Mikitaka also possesses a strange ability to shapeshift into other objects, and it’s never made clear if this is due to being an alien, or a Stand ability. In fact, Mikitaka’s whole situation is never truly explained; is he just a delusional human, or could he really be confirmation that Jojo’s universe has aliens?
6 Polnareff Gets Turned Into a Baby
Stardust Crusaders, Episode #31
Dio had a variety of henchmen working for him, some of whom had some strange abilities even for Stands. One of these was Alessi, whose Stand made it so that anyone who stepped on his shadow would grow younger. He’s a sadistic villain, picking exclusively on those weaker than him, something his Stand makes quite easy. After being tasked with killing Polnareff, Alessi gets him with his Stand and de-ages Polnareff into a child, turning his Stand into a child version as well. Polnareff tries to evade Alessi while also protecting a woman, who ends up turning into a fetus.
Polnareff eventually gets the drop on Alessi and he falls out of a window, landing near Jotaro. He turns Jotaro into a kid as well, but even young Jotaro is tougher than Alessi, knocking him out. What makes this episode even weirder is that their clothes remain the same size, meaning child Polnareff is naked for most of this.
5 The Rats Nearly Killed Jotaro and Josuke
Diamond is Unbreakable, Episode #16
One of the weirder things about Jojo is that Stands aren’t limited only to humans. Animals, some objects, and even certain locations can have Stand abilities. One of the most disgusting cases of a Stand-wielding animal is in Diamond is Unbreakable. Josuke and Jotaro discover that two rats have developed Stands from the Stand arrow, and by using their Stand, are able to melt flesh and reshape targets, turning an elderly couple into a still-living cube of meat. Defeating these rats nearly killed Jotaro, and this is the man who singlehandedly took down Dio Brando.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Set the Standard For Anime Villains with Dio: Here's Why
There is no anime villain quite like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Dio, because this one simple characteristic makes the evildoer unique.
The rats perfectly hit the intersection of bizarre and horrific, making them exactly the sort of villain that Jojo fans love. If it weren’t for the healing capabilities of Josuke’s Stand, the heroes would’ve really been in trouble here, and no one would’ve even had a clue what happened to them.
4 Giorno Throws a Dance Party Around His Enemy's Corpse
Golden Wind, Episode #5
As Bucciarati and Giorno’s group escapes on a boat, they have the defeated Zucchero with them, whose still-living head has been removed by Bucciarati’s Stand. Needing some information from the utterly helpless enemy, Mista begins torturing him, using fishing hooks to hold his eyes open and burning the retina with a thick lens in the sun. As this is occurring, Narancia turns on some music, and several of the group begin dancing in sync in what is one of the strangest moments in the whole series. It comes from nowhere, and just like that, it’s over.
It’s certainly a chilling reminder that Giorno and his crew are still gangsters, even if they’re ostensibly the “good guys” in this series. Ultimately, Zucchero actually survived this experience, being left on the boat unconscious once the group arrives at their destination.
3 The Orangutan's Ship is a Stand
Stardust Crusaders, episode #7
Stands were first introduced in part 3, Stardust Crusaders, but it didn’t take long for the idea of what a “Stand” is to expand to a ludicrous degree. Jotaro and friends end up aboard a ship that’s inhabited only by an Orangutan with a predilection for dirty magazines. When the Orangutan makes a move on the young girl they have with them, Jotaro defends her, but they soon discover that this Orangutan is a Stand too—and the entire ship they’re on is his Stand. With the environment of the fight in the Orangutan’s favor, it’s an uphill battle.
Naturally, when the Orangutan is defeated, the group is left floating in the middle of the ocean without a ship. The whole situation raises a lot of questions. Did Dio deliberately give a Stand to an Orangutan? Why? Was this all part of the plan?
2 The Ultimate Lifeform's Hand is a Squirrel
Battle Tendency, Episode #16
Even before Stands, though, Jojo could get plenty weird. Near the climax of part 2, Battle Tendency, Kars ascends to being the Ultimate “Thing,” and tests his new powers out. How? By turning his hand into a squirrel, of course. The squirrel is able to detach from his body and acts like a normal squirrel, at least until it turns into a vicious killing machine, attacking Stroheim and his men and forcing them to retreat. The squirrel then returns to Kars’ wrist and turns into a flower, and then a butterfly, seemingly just because.
Why this would be the first thing the ultimate lifeform would do is a real mystery. It’s very strange and it once again seemingly comes out of nowhere. It even loops around from being horrifying to being funny, as Joseph reacts so dramatically to the squirrel before it’s even done anything.
1 The Stand That Turns Everyone into Snails
Stone Ocean, episode #30
By far one of the weirdest moments in Jojo history is when Weather Report regains his memories and begins using his Stand to its fullest potential. Innately understanding how the complex ability works now, Weather creates strange rainbows in the sky, which turn people who look at them into snails. Even a reflection is enough, and anyone who touches a snail will also become a snail. What does this have to do with controlling the weather, the primary function of his Stand? Well, that’s the greatest mystery of all.
Weather Report may have one of the strongest Stands out there in of how many people it can affect, with the situation rapidly escalating into a full-blown disaster. It’s too bad that Weather Report is killed off not long after this, as it would certainly be interesting to see what other kind of insane abilities he technically has. Still, the snail scene is one of the most bizarre moments within Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and that’s really saying something.
