The Sega Genesis section of the Expansion Pack since launch.

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers receive access to a small library of NES and SNES games. The people who pay extra for the Expansion Pack gain access to Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles. For many people, the Nintendo 64 games were the more attractive prospect, due to the demise of the Virtual Console on modern Nintendo systems, especially as the Nintendo 3DS never received N64 game ports (outside of full remasters, like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). By contrast: Sega has been porting its Sega Genesis games to pretty much every console released since the death of the Dreamcast. This also includes the dedicated Sega Genesis Mini retro console from 2019, as well as the Sega Genesis Classics collection, which is available on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.

The Expansion Pack recently added the last of its announced Nintendo 64 games, with Pokémon Snap arriving on the service in June. There are still Sega Genesis games arriving on the service and Nintendo/Sega saved a great bunch for July. The next batch of Sega Genesis games for the Expansion Pack was announced in a trailer on the official Sega Genesis app for Nintendo Switch Online are found below.

The Sega Genesis Games Added To Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (July 2022)

Zero Wing All Your Base Belong To Us Meme

The Sega Genesis games added to NSO in July 2022 are:

  • Comix Zone
  • Mega Man: The Wily Wars
  • Target Earth
  • Zero Wing

Comix Zone is a brawler that resembles an interactive comic book, where the main character travels from to . The only thing more memorable than Comix Zone's art style was its brutal difficulty, which means the Rewind feature in Nintendo Switch Online is going to see a lot of use with this game.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars is a remake of the first three Mega Man games for the Sega Genesis. If the player completes the three Mega Man games, they will unlock the Wily Tower mode, which features three unique boss fights. Target Earth (originally known as Assault Suit Leynos in Japan) is a 2D run and gun game, where the player pilots a mech suit. Zero Wing might be the most famous game on the list, as it's the source of the "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" video game meme from the old days of the Internet. Zero Wing is a bog-standard 2D space shooter, like R-Type, but it's best known for its awful localization, which made it the subject of mockery across the world.
