The reveal of the high price tag of Switch 2 games. But now, former Nintendo PR managers have shared their thoughts on the controversial reveal, describing it as "a true crisis moment for Nintendo" while also offering some (former) insider perspectives on what Nintendo might be thinking in the aftermath and what might have led Nintendo to approaching the console's reveal the way it did.
Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, two former PR managers for Nintendo of America, posted a video on their pricing of the $80 Mario Kart World on the Nintendo website, opining that Nintendo knew fans would be upset about the price.
Additionally, Nintendo reportedly asked attendees during a Switch 2 media event not to ask about prices or tariffs that could affect pricing. Nintendo has not yet made any comment regarding the harsh criticisms, and Yang notes that, because of the lack of transparency and widespread misinformation due to Nintendo's lack of response, the company is "enabling the story to get out of hand" and that Nintendo now has to "do even more work to correct that misinformation and that's going to be really tough."
Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang's Comments Carry Weight
Ellis And Yang Know A Lot About Nintendo
Ellis and Yang's comments carry more weight than many may expect. Both worked with former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé and the late Satoru Iwata, who was president of Nintendo until his death in 2015. Ellis and Yang detail that Nintendo used to be consumer-minded under their leadership, highlighting that Fils-Aimé was the main advocate of making Wii Sports a free game for the launch of the Wii. But now, fans think that Nintendo is not thinking about creating a happy customer base and instead focusing on higher profits using their established brand weight.

Nintendo Switch 2 Backward Compatibility Is Completely Different From Wii U & 3DS
Backward compatibility is a must-have for most new consoles; it's been common for Nintendo since the very beginning, but the Switch 2 is different.
In of what people at Nintendo may be thinking right now, Ellis and Yang state that Nintendo is not ignorant of the situation right now, but the company may not have a solution and might be a bit surprised by how severe the negative reactions have been. They also noted the digital protest during the Nintendo Treehouse livestream was embarrassing for the company.
There is more than likely a process in place to make an official statement, according to Ellis and Yang. But Nintendo might struggle to get an official statement through the various approval processes at the company, Ellis and Yang say, who believe that such a statement would take a long time to make due to Nintendo being out of practice when responding to a controversy of this size.
Our Take: Nintendo Needs To Correct Course But Has Few Options
A Close Release Date And Lack of Transparency Will Make Launch Difficult
While Nintendo definitely needs to change direction to ease fans' frustrations, there may not be many options. With the Switch 2 releasing in June and pre-orders being delayed due to tariff concerns, coupled with Nintendo's lack of transparency, the launch of the Switch 2 may be rough for the company and consumers.
With fans already highly critical of the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, the pricing, and the way information was handled, Nintendo definitely has an uphill battle ahead of it to make things better for the company and for its fans.
