Nicole Kidman’s Masha returns for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2, only now she’s practicing at Zauberwald, a German clinic in the Bavarian Alps. Her methods are as mad as ever, but the faces and crises around her have changed, and only the next few episodes can tell whether she will heal or hurt them. Her new patients include an estranged mother-daughter duo played by Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!) and Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek).
The Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding), a fellow guest whose father is more interested in business than his own son.
ScreenRant interviewed Baranski, Murphy, and Aydin about the messy triangle they form in Nine Perfect Strangers season 2. They teased how the mother-daughter dynamics will develop, revealed whether or not romance is at the forefront of their stories, and shared which of the other characters’ concerns moved them most.
Christine Baranski Previews Her Arc In Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2
“You Want To Start At The Beginning And Let It Reveal Itself”
ScreenRant: Christine, Victoria and her daughter have ostensibly come to patch up their relationship, but Victoria is resistant to even acknowledging the problem. What is the issue in their dynamic from her perspective?
Christine Baranski: I think she knows there are things to work out, but she's treading very lightly when she first arrives because she has a really profound dilemma in her life, which is her own mortality.
She comes in, and she doesn't want her daughter to know why she has a cane. She says, "Oh, I fell off a chair." She's making extra special effort to be lighthearted and witty and irreverent and all, and that's hiding a lot of what she knows is inevitable that she must reveal. So, when you first see her, she seems just like one of those fabulous women with great clothes and funny lines. "Oh, we've seen Christine play that role before."
But you don't want to start at the end. You want to start at the beginning and let it reveal itself in its own way.
Romance Is Not Top Of Mind For Annie Murphy’s Character – Family Is
“That’s Kind Of Imogen’s Love Story”
ScreenRant: Annie, Imogen quickly finds comfort with Peter. What draws her to him and how might that dynamic develop over the course of the retreat?
Annie Murphy: She does kind of jump right into bed with sweet Peter. I think she's just so desperate for any sort of validation or affection that it's a no-brainer for her, but it is a very tumultuous week that they are venturing into.
I think the validation that she is looking for at the end of the day is from her mom, so that's kind of Imogen's love story, in my opinion.

Annie Murphy's 8 Best Movies And TV Shows
The best Annie Murphy movies and TV shows bring her unique comedic talents beyond Schitts Creek and Kevin Can F**k himself.
ScreenRant: Matteo is Victoria's younger boyfriend, who Imogen seems to despise. And yet who could despise you? You're the sweetest guy. How does the bond that you currently have with Victoria develop?
Aras Aydin: It starts so strong and so beautiful, the communication between Victoria and Matteo, and it [keeps] going like this. There is no low point; we're always building. There was a beautiful and sweet communication between them.
Christine Baranski: We're the only happy couple.
Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 Stars Reveal Whose Healing Journey Touched Them Most
“I Felt Like A Scholarship Student”
ScreenRant: Even though every character comes with their own crisis, they're also observing everyone around them. Was there any other story or character that really tugged at your heartstrings?
Annie Murphy: Interesting. I think it was Matteo for me because he does present as this very sweet, happy-go-lucky, optimistic person who's so loving and caring. And then when we find out the horrific trauma that he's experienced, the ability that Aras had to just really take us to such a level of sorrow really broke my heart. I think he played this character so beautifully.
Christine Baranski: I loved Tina, the artist who had to give up her career. She couldn't do it anymore, and it's driving her crazy. She's so bright and young and witty and irreverent.
I think Victoria never had any scenes with her, but if she could have, she would've related to it. I think Victoria's someone who's open to artists being crazy, and I get it. I think I could have been a good listener, or even given her advice on just owning all of that and [understanding] how hard it is to be an artist.
Aras Aydin: You know what? Everybody's my favorite because we spent six months in Munich, and that was like school to me. I felt like a scholarship student, and I observed every character's personality. So, that was a beautiful story for me.
Murray [Bartlett], Dolly [de Leon], Mark [Strong], Nicole [Kidman], and everybody else was incredible, well-prepared, and professional, so that was like school for me.
Christine Baranski: You graduated, by the way!
