The release date for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has been revealed, with Square Enix announcing that it will launch on April 23, 2021 across a variety of platforms. The game is a remake of the Japanese exclusive game NieR Replicant, which originally launched in 2010 and was an alternate version of NieR Gestalt. This special edition of the game featured a younger protagonist and slightly different story.
The last entry in the role-playing series came in 2017 in the form of NieR Automata, which news about the project at the Tokyo Game Show but not many expected the publisher to announce a release date.
Square Enix has revealed the release date for the NieR Replicant remake at the Tokyo Game Show, revealing that the game is due to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23, 2021. The game is described as "a modern re-telling of NieR Replicant, which originally released in Japan in 2010" and will act as a prequel to the more recent NieR Automata. As well as announcing the launch date for the title, Square Enix also debuted a brand new trailer, which can be seen below. The footage in the video gives players a look at some of the locations from the original game and features revamped music from composer Keiichi Okabe. The publisher also confirmed that Nier Replicant is now available for pre-order.
Although Square Enix has been unusually quiet about the development of NieR Replicant over the last few months, there were some indications that the game was set to release in the near future. In fact, a Twitter post from the Taiwanese rating's board suggested that the game could actually release at the end of 2020. The fact that it is set to release just a few months later means that the rating from Taiwan was likely accurate.
Knowing exactly when NieR Replicant is due to launch will be good news to fans of the series. Players who enjoyed the sequel but missed out on the original due to its exclusivity on the PlayStation 3 will no doubt be particularly interested in picking up the game and trying it out. The new trailer will also reassure fans that this is a pretty in-depth remaster, with vastly improved graphics.
