Nicolas Cage confirms the rumors that conversations have been taking place about playing the lead role in Sony's Spider-Man Universe is going through the motions, following the release of Madame Web, the studio is going forward with telling stories based on the web-crawler's mythology. However, it may not just be on the big screen anymore as Sony is looking towards the world of television for more Spider-Man stories.

In a new interview with Spider-Man Noir (which he previously voiced in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). While the rumors are true, Cage stressed that there have only been talks, and nothing is currently set in stone, sharing the following:

Well, I can say that we have been talking. It's no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee's masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing's definitive yet. It's just conversation.

Sony's Live-Action Spider-Man TV Shows Explained

In collaboration with MGM+ and Prime Video, Sony is looking to develop numerous live-action Spider-Man TV shows, which would first air on MGM+ before streaming on the Amazon-branded service. Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, are attached as executive producers on all of the shows that have been announced. They will also be involved with other live-action Spider-Man TV shows that haven't been revealed yet.

Casting Silk In Sony's Live-Action Marvel TV Show

Sony is developing a TV adaptation of Cindy Moon, better known as Spider-Man's superhero ally Silk. Could she be played by one of these actresses?

The first series that is being worked on is Silk: Spider Society, which will center on Cindy Moon, with Angela Kang as the showrunner. Spider-Man Noir, which has The Punisher's Steve Lightfoot attached as the showrunner, is also in development at this point. However, Spider-Man Noir will focus on a new hero under the mask, as it won't be Peter Parker headlining the TV show.

Given the Writers Guild of America strike that occurred last year, it has likely delayed further announcements on other Spider-Man TV shows, as 2024 is a catch-up year for many creators in Hollywood. Time will tell what other characters Sony will try to focus on as they build out their Spider-Man TV universe. Hopefully, more news on Spider-Man Noir will emerge sooner rather than later, especially if Cage ends up g on for the TV show.
