The New World's player count has dropped substantially since it launched in the span of about two months.

As the second major game published by Amazon Games, New World includes a number of unique features that make it stand out from most MMOs, such as its real-time combat without a lock-on system. Combat puts a greater emphasis on a player's skill than gear or power level, with reflexes and timing playing a key role in surviving any battle. New World also boasts an authentic simulated economy using gold coins for currency, and it can realistically experience inflation or deflation based on how players use it. New World's Public Test Realm was also recently created, allowing players to explore, experiment with, and offer on additions and changes before they globally release.

The New World 1.1 update, titled Into the Void, brings new content and numerous bug fixes to Amazon's MMO. The update, which was first featured in the New World PTR, adds a new weapon called the Void Gauntlet. The magical artifact combines damage-dealing and qualities, allowing players to fight with a shadowy blade or heal allies from afar. A fresh enemy faction, the Varangian Knights, have also appeared in New World to impose quite a new challenge for players. Into the Void additionally brings other quality-of-life changes to the game, such as increased movement on roads, new PvP Faction Missions, universally linked Trading Posts, and a new location for Ezra's Forge. The full New World patch notes have also been provided by Amazon.

While New World includes some fascinating gaming mechanics, the final product has been found lacking by many players. Many of its issues are unforeseen side-effects of its most novel ideas, such as its dynamic economy system. While a realistic economy sounds like an interesting feature to implement in an MMORPG, 's in-game economic deflation has led many players to begin bartering for goods rather than purchasing them outright. Gold is evidently not being produced quickly enough in-game, leading to rampant deflation as players hoard their currency and causing them to be unable to purchase even basic in-game necessities. Without intervention from Amazon, this economy problem is expected to continue into the title's future.

New World is an ambitious new title, and Amazon Games intends to continue updating the experience over time. The steady addition of new weapons and enemy types could help to maintain the game's long-term viability, as players always have something new to explore or experience. However, ongoing issues such as the game's economic deflation must first be addressed by Amazon if New World and its updates are to find its footing in the MMO genre.
