Amazon Games' massive multiplayer online title, New World, temporarily disabled wealth transfers to prevent players from utilizing a gold duplication exploit. The RPG has seen considerable success following its September launch, but not without some serious glitches and New World server issues.
In mid-October, New World players discovered a gold duplication glitch that originated as a side effect of transferring servers. The exploit was discovered an update that brought enabled server transfers in an effort to combat long server queues experienced at launch. Some players who tried to transfer their characters to a new server received a "character persistence issue" error notice that prevented progress or saving functions. As a result, some players transferred their gold to another player, logged off, and had their gold returned to them upon logging back in. The simple series of actions allowed players to gain twice the amount of gold it initially transferred. Amazon spoke out against the issue, warning players that exploiting the glitch could result in a permanent ban.
Due to this bug's consistent exploitation, New World (via PC Gamer) announced that all wealth transfers will be disabled. This includes sending currency, guild treasury, trading post, and player-to-player trading. Amazon reiterated that if this glitch is exploited by any player, "the use of this exploit will be actioned against." Furthermore, it explained that once that gold duplication exploit has been thoroughly investigated, it will update the post.
The gold duplication glitch is by no means the first exploit found in New World since launch. Players recently discovered an extremely easy-to-execute glitch that prevents their in-game characters from taking damage. This invincibility glitch is quite simple, only requiring players to switch the game to its windowed mode and drag it across the screen. For the entire time the mouse is holding onto the window, their character won't receive damage.
Even after all the glitches, server issues, and bugs its players have experienced, New World still remains popular. There is no telling when Amazon will update players on this matter or how long its investigation into the exploit will take. One thing is for sure, New World players will have to wait for wealth transfer to be available. Although this isn't the first exploitation of the game, hopefully, it will be the last.
New World is available on PC.
