Fans recently rejoiced as CD Projekt Red announced the next installment in Epic Games to develop the newest entry on Unreal Engine 5. As soon as word broke, fans had already started to wonder if the company will make what's presumably The Witcher 4 an Epic Game Store exclusive.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on May 19, 2015, and was a massive hit for the franchise. To this day, the game is still being played by fans around the world. While players did not need to experience the first games to enjoy The Witcher 3, there is no way of knowing, at the moment, if the new Witcher game will be the same. CD Project Red appears to be working with Epic Games to make the best game possible for the sequel to this beloved franchise.
Players began to worry that the new partnership between both companies would lead to an Epic Games Store exclusive deal on PC. Fortunately for fans, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that there will not be a limit on how players can purchase and enjoy the game. A post on the official The Witcher Twitter stated, "We are not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront." This multi-year partnership with Epic Games will allow both companies to work together, hopefully, making an open-world game that will rival The Witcher 3.
Why An Epic Exclusive Deal Would Be Bad For The Witcher & CD Projekt Red
It's worth noting that Epic Games Store exclusivity has angered fans before and CD Projekt Red probably doesn't want to upset their fans any further. The company's next major IP to come out after The Witcher 3 was Cyberpunk 2077. The highly-anticipated game's rocky release soured the good favor that the previous title had built up with the community. Cyberpunk 2077 was riddled with bugs and glitches from day one, causing many stores to offer full refunds. As a result, players may be wary of any promising details that are reported about the newest entry into The Witcher series and an exclusivity deal could hurt the company (and series) even more.
Fans have been waiting over six years for news of a new main-series game in the widely popular fantasy franchise. Most likely, players will be seeing the release of the new The Witcher game in the distant future, as CD Projekt Red will not want to rush this title. By utilizing Unreal Engine 5, the company will hopefully be able to make the best game possible.
