Marvel has completely rewritten the rules of the symbiotes, as the Venom War rages on, redefining decades of lore. As the apocalyptic Venom War continues forward, allegiances have begun to change as new enemies prove to be greater threats. In these rapidly changing series of events, father, son, and symbiote have found perfect unity in their symbiotic trinity.

Venom War #4 - by Al Ewing and Iban Coello - is only the next step in the lore-defining masterpiece that has slowly found its footing near the end of this eventful conflict. What began as a complicated string of multiversal spanning chaos, is now starting to come to a close while changing everything readers know about the symbiotes.

While Eddie and Dylan Brock have waged a war over who controls the Venom symbiote, Venom was left behind without home or family. However, when given the chance, the symbiote chose both. Eddie, Dylan, and the symbiote are Venom.

What Eddie, Dylan & Venom's New Trinity Means For Symbiote Lore

The Symbiotic Family Has Been Reunited

Dylan Brock, Eddie Brock, and Venom stand together as one.

Throughout the onslaught of the Venom War, Venom fled to the shadows in horror of his family’s actions. To Venom, Dylan and Eddie aren’t just hosts, they're family. Eddie and Venom have been bonded for decades, the two often sharing a single sense of identity. When Dylan was born, parts of Venom’s codex, so deeply ingrained in Eddie’s DNA, merged into the infant’s genetics. This resulted in a hybrid child who is just as much Venom’s as he is Eddie’s. Throughout the trials of the war, Venom has felt outcast, turning back to Peter Parker for a temporary home.

However, as the Venom War has been discovered to be a proxy war between Doctor Doom and Kang the Conqueror, Eddie, Dylan, and Venom have finally been reunited. Just as the three felt their family coming back together, Doom’s machinations fatally cost Eddie Brock his life. As he lay bleeding out, Dylan crying over his father’s dying body, Spider-Man told Venom it was time to choose his host. When faced with an impossible decision, Venom chose both. When a prophecy foretold that a father or son would destroy the world with Venom, the symbiote chose his own destiny: family.

Our Take on The Future of Marvel's New (Golden?) Venom Triad

The Venom War Finale is Changing the Game and Tying Up Loose Ends

The All-New Venom poses in a golden aura.

Together, the trio are in perfect unity. Both hosts' hearts beat as one. All three minds are linked by instinct. Fathers are reunited with their son. A family is back together, and it has changed all the rules. Symbiotic drones and offshoots aren’t a new concept. Grendal has countless offshoots that weren’t considered “spawns.” Carnage commanded entire armies of symbiotes, infected with his genetic structure. The Kings in Black can exert their will over any symbiote across space and time. But never has a single symbiote created a simultaneous conscious bond between two hosts, let alone a perfect one.

From Venom to The King in Black, Marvel has created dozens of symbiote Klyntar. But which of these alien weapons could be considered the strongest?

This feat could not have been pulled off by any other characters than the three Venoms. Each of their genetic codes and symbiotic codices has left behind near-identical marks that bind them within the Symbiote Hive. Eddie Brock is Venom. Venom is Dylan Brock. Dylan Brock is Eddie Brock. As Marvel prepares to introduce an All-New Venom in the future, it’s even harder to say what the fate of this trio will become. Al Ewing has taken some dramatic steps to tie up years of symbiotic loose ends, but regardless of where their story goes, together they are Venom.

Venom War #4 will be available on November 6, 2024 from Marvel Comics.

HISTORY
The Venom symbiote is an alien organism that first bonded with Peter Parker (Spider-Man) during the "Secret Wars" storyline. After Parker rejected the symbiote, it found a new host in Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist. The symbiote and Brock bonded over their mutual hatred for Spider-Man, becoming the anti-hero known as Venom. Over time, Venom has evolved from a villain to an anti-hero, often fighting alongside other heroes to protect innocents, though his methods remain brutal.

Venom is a symbiotic alien entity bonded with various human hosts, notably Eddie Brock and later Flash Thompson. It grants superhuman strength, agility, and a shape-shifting black costume. Initially a Spider-Man villain due to its origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses. The character embodies themes of duality and redemption within the Marvel Universe.
