A tease from an unlikely source has fans excited over the possibility of a new launch the Yakuza series, who famously described the series' success as something he still couldn't understand decades later.

For those unfamiliar, the Super Monkey Ball series is a bizarre spin on marbles. Essentially, a roster of cutesy, quirkey monkey characters hop inside a capsule that functions like a marble and roll down various obstacle courses by spinning the ball via running in one place. The series also has had several other game modes, including a parasol gliding function and snowboarding, and remains one of the most underappreciated party games around. A recent remaster on the Nintendo Switch helped remind fans of exactly why the game surprisingly caught on with a bigger audience than expected. It also incidentally created more demand for a new entry into the series, which has been dormant outside of the remaster, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, and a mobile title called Super Monkey Ball Bounce that launched in 2014.

Fans hoping for a new Super Monkey Ball game were given hope earlier this week by the original games' announcer Brian Matt, who shared an intriguing post on his Instagram. In it, he displays himself playing Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD on the Nintendo Switch, captioning the image with "September will be amazing for what's to come" and tagging the official Sega and Super Monkey Ball Instagram s in the post.

That wasn't all, however. Following that post, Brian again took to Instagram to tease yet another bit of information on Super Monkey Ball, stating that "major news this month" should be expected in an image that highlights the many times he has peformed the role of game announcer or narrator for Sega titles.

While the posts don't give a hard date for fans to look forward to, it's most likely that a new Super Monkey Ball game will be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2020, the next major industry event scheduled for later in September. Sega generally has a strong presence there, and its online nature means there will likely be more eyeballs on it from casual Western viewers than is normal, increasing the likelihood of major announcements.
