Warning: contains potential spoilers for Storm #10!
A new Silver Surfer is on their way to the Marvel Universe, and fans simply will not believe their identity. One of Marvel’s most powerful heroes, the Silver Surfer soars in the currents of space, helping those in need. Yet now, a grave threat to the universe has arisen, one that threatens both the Surfer and his former master Galactus, as seen in a first look at Storm #10.
Marvel shared information about the forthcoming Storm #10 with League of Comic Geeks. The book will be written by Murewa Ayodele and drawn by Lucas Werneck, and is part one of “The Thunder War.” Marvel’s solicitation for the issue reads as follows:
"THUNDER WAR" Begins! It's a full-circle moment. The F.B.I. finally discover the mutant child from the OKLAHOMA INCIDENT (from ISSUE #1) and the safe house STORM sheltered the child in. The F.B.I. will not stop until they take in this mutant child, as the kid's unmatched nuclear-radiation powers make them a threat to humanity. STORM must protect this child, but there is one problem: The last time STORM was in close proximity to the child, STORM died a horrible death.
Meanwhile, in the far reaches of space, ETERNITY locates the BLACK WINTER that consumed GALACTUS and SILVER SURFER SOOT — kick-starting the terrifying THUNDER WAR. Guest-starring BISHOP — the gunslinging energy gobbler!
In addition, Marvel provided League of Comic Geeks with an advanced look at Mateus Manhanini’s cover for Storm #10, featuring the titular heroine riding the Silver Surfer’s board.
Marvel did not provide any additional information, such as whether this is Storm’s new status quo.
The Silver Surfer, Marvel's Forthcoming MCU Star, Explained
The Silver Surfer Is a Unique Character in the Marvel Universe
The Silver Surfer is one of the most unique characters in the Marvel Universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby at the height of their acclaimed run on The Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer was once Norrin Radd, a native of the planet Zenn-La. The planet eater Galactus threatened Zenn-La, and Radd offered his services to the entity in exchange for sparing his world. Galactus took Radd up on his offer, imbuing him with the Power Cosmic, which transformed him into the Silver Surfer. He would serve Galactus until the latter threatened Earth, leading the Surfer to rebel.
The Silver Surfer’s appeal lies both in his unique appearance and gimmick. At the time of his creation in the 1960s, the surfing craze was just starting to take off in America. Music groups like The Beach Boys penned a number of songs about surfing that captured the imagination of teenagers everywhere, and there were plenty of beach movies made at the time too. The country was falling in love with surfing, so a hero who surfed seemed like a slam dunk. The Silver Surfer was also prone to philosophical asides, which only increased his appeal, particularly among intellectuals.
The Silver Surfer Has Apparently Been Defeated in Marvel Lore
Storm is An Out-of-Left-Field Choice to Replace the Silver Surfer
If the Black Winter was capable of killing Galactus and the Surfer, then the heroes of Earth would not stand a chance.
Since escaping Galactus’ service, the Silver Surfer has had a testy relationship with his previous master, but he never returned to the planet-eater’s side. Yet now, with “The Thunder War” threatening the Marvel Universe, the Surfer and Galactus find themselves on the same side once again, yet it may already be too late. Marvel’s solicitation stated that Galactus and the Surfer fell to the Black Winter, a fearsome cosmic entity that even Eternity fears. If the Black Winter was capable of killing Galactus and the Surfer, then the heroes of Earth would not stand a chance.

Silver Surfer Claims A New Title And Form, Unlocking His Greatest Power in Marvel Canon
The Silver Surfer has shockingly claimed one of Marvel's most powerful cosmic weapons, taking a brand new title in his most powerful form ever seen.
However, not all hope is lost, as Storm will rise to the occasion. Storm has always been one of the most popular of the X-Men, and in recent years has seen her status in the Marvel Universe rise even higher. During the Krakoa Era, Storm was Regent of Mars, holding her own against villains like Doctor Doom. Storm’s powers are Omega-level as well, making her one of Earth’s most powerful mutants. Yet even then, her raw power will not be enough to stop Black Winter and save Galactus and the Silver Surfer.
Will Storm Keep the Powers of the Silver Surfer?
The Silver Surfer's Board Makes Storm Very Powerful, But Will It Be Enough?
If the cover to Storm #10 is anything to go on, then she may have found a way to turn back the Black Winter: the Silver Surfer’s surfboard. The cover shows Storm riding it effortlessly, seemingly utilizing both her weather-based powers and channeling the surfboard’s power. When an Omega-level mutant like Storm takes control of one of the most powerful objects in Marvel history, then sparks are guaranteed to fly. If Storm is really taking the Silver Surfer’s board, then she has just become one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, maybe even capable of taking on Black Winter.
