Warning: contains spoilers for Legion of X #10!Vox Ignis, the Juggernaut and others are fighting the evil Technarchy, who seek to corrupt Krakoa, and when the team needs to penetrate a seemingly unbreakable barrier, one that stops even the Juggernaut, Vox imparts some of his power upon him–giving Marko Cain his most powerful form yet.
The issue is written by Si Spurrier, illustrated by Netho Diaz, inked by Sean Parsons and Alvaro Lopez, colored by Java Tartaglia and Ruth Raymond and lettered by Clayton Cowles. The Technarchy, an interdimensional techno-hive mind, are seeking to establish a beachhead on Krakoa, via the Astral Plane. They have created a barrier around the beacon bringing more of their kind to our world; the Juggernaut, now far less powerful, could have broken through once, but not anymore. As Juggernaut laments the situation, Vox Ignis tells him there might be a solution.
Invoking his heritage as a former Spirit of Vengeance, tells Juggernaut “a rider must have a steed.” As Mother Righteous, Vox’s patron, checks in on her charge, she sees he has super-charged the Juggernaut–and is riding the brute the same way Ghost Rider would ride a motorcycle.
Juggernaut Is Ghost Rider's Coolest Ride Yet
Vox Ignis, formerly Banshee, is the “Spirit of Variance,” a mutation within the ranks of the Spirits of Vengeance. Countless millennia ago, one of the Spirits of Vengeance realized that a mission of revenge and violence would only beget more misery and suffering, and rebelled against its comrades. This Spirit of Variance was banished by the others, largely because they feared its power. Mother Righteous initially offered the Spirit to Legion, but when he refused, Banshee was chosen instead. Since then, Vox/Banshee has been fighting alongside Legion and his team. The Juggernaut, who was recently radically depowered, is also on Legion’s team–and when he needs a power up, it is Vox Ignis to the rescue.
Since the first Ghost Rider’s debut over 50 years ago, the various Spirits of Vengeance have used a number of cool vehicles as their rides, ranging from motorcycles to muscle cars; some Spirits, such as the Stone Age Ghost Rider, even use animals–yet a supernaturally charged Juggernaut, with Vox Ignis riding him like a steed, is a sight to behold. Thus far, Vox Ignis has not ridden any vehicles or animals, using Banshee’s powers to fly instead. The Spirit of Variance has eschewed a number of traditions laid down by his former associates, and riding seemed to be one of them. Now, with the Technarchy laying siege to Krakoa, Vox had to do some quick thinking. The Juggernaut, power-wise a former shell of himself, was unable to break the barrier the Technarchy had erected; Vox saw an opportunity and took it, and invoking his heritage as a Spirit of Vengeance, utilized Juggernaut like a steed, riding him into battle.
After vanquishing the Technarchy and saving Krakoa, Vox depowers the Juggernaut. Juggernaut enjoyed the power upgrade, asking Vox if they could “do it again.” It had been a while since the Juggernaut tasted such raw power, and there is no denying he and Vox Ignis make a great team. A powerful new pair has been born, and Vox powering up Juggernaut as he does in this issue could be the “Fastball Special” for a new era. Vox Ignis, the X-Men’s new Ghost Rider, has given the Juggernaut his best upgrade yet.
