The group in all very relatable in their own ways. Therefore, fans found it very easy to root for them all, no matter what situations were occurring. They definitely had a lot of qualities that made them very lovable. However, even with that being said, there were not perfect. In fact, they had some pretty major flaws that certainly are worth exploring more frequently.
Every character in this series had smart and dumb qualities. These characteristics would of course create a lot of situations for all of them, whether they were good or bad. No matter what the case was, they definitely made the series entertaining. Characters need to possess imperfections to make them more likable, especially when it comes to comedies like this series.
Taking a deeper look into the main characters' personalities certainly makes it clear that this was the case.
Smartest: Jess's All-Around Knowledge
Jess was a very smart character when it came to school knowledge. This makes a lot of sense, as she of course was a teacher. As a result of this, she knew a lot of facts and seemed to be the smartest a lot of the time when it came to the loft.
Sure, she was a bit immature when it came to other factors of adult life, but one cannot deny that she was intelligent. Therefore, it made a lot of sense that she was a teacher, as she clearly was qualified to work in that profession.
Dumbest: Jess's People Pleasing
Throughout the series, Jess's biggest flaw was that she tried to please people far too often. This was especially the case when it came to Russell, as it was strange how she always seemed to seek his approval when it came to her relationship with Nick.
Jess was simply far too focused on this, and it often led to her lying at times too. No character in television is perfect of course, but this aspect of her would certainly get her in trouble on numerous occasions.
Smartest: Nick's Storytelling
Obviously, Nick was a fantastic writer, as he would eventually get published for his work. However, even with this being the case, it should be noted that he was always a fantastic storyteller throughout the whole series.
This was seen many times, as he often did quite well when it came to explaining stories from his childhood. Also, his ability to improvise because of his storytelling would come in handy many times, such as when Jess wanted him to pretend to be gay when she invited a guy she was interested in over.
Dumbest: Nick's Childlike Behavior
Nick's childlike behavior was certainly lovable at times, but it also came with a lot of issues in the series. It would restrict him from doing a lot of things that are simply expected from adults. This was especially the case as the series progressed.
For example, when he dumped Reagan, he ditched her on their planned trip to San Diego. This type of behavior made him not only hurt others but also irritate the people around him too.
Smartest: Schmidt's Words Of Encouragement
Schmidt would provide wonderful advice to his friends many times throughout the series. This was especially the case when it came to Nick. He was not only was responsible for Nick's growth in confidence when it came to his writing career but also made him realize he still loved Jess.
Schmidt's ability to understand and read the room certainly would make him a valuable asset to the group. Although he would not necessarily make the best decisions in his personal life, he always seemed to know how to helps others.
Dumbest: Schmidt's Dating Decisions
Until he finally married Cece, Schmidt was the absolute worst at dating. This was presented by how often he would choose bad partners. Also, one cannot forget the fact that he dated both Cece and Elizabeth at the same time.
His lack of experience dating made him pretty terrible during the first handful of seasons. However, when he finally matured and took responsibility for his awful actions, he did redeem himself on that front.
Smartest: Winston's Detective Side
Winston always seemed to be the first person to realize when something was up. This was especially the case when it came to the loft ' love interests. He would often find out before being told and would then help the person with feelings.
This honestly would be a great indicator of Winston's potential as a cop. It was nice for the series to give him this career, as the show did seem to do a wonderful job of building up to it. Overall, one must ire how smart Winston was in this regard.
Dumbest: Winston's Entire Character Change
Yet, even with Winston becoming a cop, it was quite clear that he became dumber as the series went on. At the beginning of the show, it was apparent that Winston was the smartest out of the men in the group. This would not stick.
That is not necessarily a bad thing, as his character did become a lot funnier later on. However, his intelligence was deeply decreased when it came to everyday life, and one should not ignore that. Nonetheless, he was still absolutely hysterical.
Smartest: Cece's Business IQ
Cece went from an uninspired model to a manager in the business. This was truly a spectacular thing to see, as it would display the fact that she was quite smart when it came to business. It allowed her to blossom a career of her very own.
Season 7 would be amazing, as it would show just how far she came in just three years. It definitely did a wonderful job of showing that she was actually among the smartest characters from the group. It was a great way to complete her character's story.
Dumbest: Cece's Dating Decisions
Much like Schmidt, Cece was not smart when it came to dating at all. She almost married Shivrang when she was not in love with him, while simultaneously still liking Schmidt. She also dated Robby while possessing clear feelings for Schmidt too.
Schmidt definitely did not do her any favors by cheating on her, but these two had no business ever splitting. Cece always seemed to be in love with Schmidt, no matter who she tried to move on from him with. Thankfully, they of course would end up together in the end.
